How Rutgers wrestling’s Sebastian Rivera hopes to follow Anthony Ashnault’s lead

Anthony Ashnault was a three-time All-American and two-time national semifinalist wrestling at 141 pounds, but he broke through and captured a NCAA title in his final collegiate season for Rutgers after moving up to the 149-pound class.

Sebastian Rivera, the Scarlet Knights’ newest headliner, is aiming for a similar result.

Yianni is probably going to end up at 149. If so, I don’t see any way the finals isn’t Rivera vs Nick Lee

Probably. Yianni is a flukey last second cradle away from being undefeated in his NCAA career. As long as he stays healthy, I fully expect him to end his career as a 4x champ with a record around 140-1. Spencer Lee is certainly no joke but he’s shown he’s beatable, though he has that extra gear in the NCAAs.

Lee is a great wrestler. Yanni represents the same at a heavier weight class. I hope Seabass can do it whether or not Yanni is the obstacle.

Yanni is a high mountain to climb.

He sure is a high mountain but there is a minute chance for someone to sneak in and beat him. McKenna could have and should have beaten him in the finals last year. Was rooting so hard for our Jersey guy and he came oh so close.
