How the mighty have fallen: Pitt goes from a 1-seed to 0-18 in ACC in 7 years

The Littlepaged their program by hiring Stallings. He will be out next year but will they hire their Bob Wenzel or Fred Hill

Fans of any team, in this case Pitt, never look at the "what could happen" when they call for the firing of an HC. Dixon was under a lot of heat from Pitt faithful for "not winning enough" and "not being able to get past the first weekend in the NCAA tournament". How is that going for them now?

I felt the same way when people at RU were asking to move on from Schiano. Don't people ever consider what the downside can be of moving on from an HC who actually wins games? Schools like Pitt, Rutgers, etc., etc are much closer to 2-10 than they are to 10-2 (in football) or much closer to 9-23 than they are to 23-9 in hoops. If you have an HC who wins when you are at a school like Pitt or Rutgers you need to hang on to them like grim death.

I remember watching them beat us around 2000 or 2001 in their gym in Pittsburgh (the old one) and thinking how their program shouldn't pass ours. How wrong I was. I think we'd all take their last 20-yr arc over ours. But if someone tells me from the future that the next 5 years has us making the tournament with Pike, I think I might take our 25-yr arc over theirs.

Brutal honesty like you express is needed at times for sports programs that are at crossroads when it comes to hiring/firing head coaches. In Rutgers case the decision to go big time in football resulted in non interest financially in mens basketball for decades and the futility on the court has been the end result.

The right guy could rebuild Pitt-------but that guy isn't Kevin Stallings

They have enough to sell----nice facility with a nice city and a short flight from a lot of good HS Hoops.

Tom Crean would be a guy I would take a hard look at if I were them.

If pike wins 23 games we'll give him a lifetime contract, no worries.
