The Hoyas have lost their 25th consecutive regular season Big East game

Last year’s magical run in the Big East tournament will go down as legend in the history of MSG and one of its greatest hero’s, Patrick Ewing.

Yet, for me what holds a special place in my heart is another legendary moment in Big East history that was a precursor to the sleeping giant.

When we first made the leap from the A-10 to Big East and we’re led by a determined point guard who left it all on the court.

It’s simply incredible to see how far Georgetown has fallen and how far Rutgers has come.

It’s enough to make your heart sing and your head spin.

Our tough as nails underdog PG of a head coach has a lot in common with Geoff Billett- he was there when Calhoun arrived and was a laughingstock of the Big East elite.

But don’t look now, but Jersey-boy Danny Hurley has UConn rolling and we’re not far behind.

I feel like we are poised to become the bullies of northeast basketball with football money behind our backs, a basketball-crazed state and an elite coaching staff.

This team looks much better than I thought before the season. It is remarkable to lose your two leading scorers- super seniors- and get better.

This is program building.

This is the stuff of legend.

Just goes to show that the very good are not guaranteed to stay that way, and previously mediocre teams can rise up
Gonzaga was not always Gonzaga, and may not be Gonzaga now
How is that for a strange sentence ?

I would hope this was true for football also, but the road is much tougher it seems

Georgetown has a chance to break the streak, hosting DePaul tonight. If they don't get this game, it could be a winless regular season in DC.

The names already circulating are both Rick and Richard Pitino, Mike Young at Virginia Tech and maybe Tommy Amaker (unlikely, but he would recruit well there).

My guess is Pitino Jr leaves New Mexico and gets 7 or 8 years to clean up the mess and Pitino Sr, leaves Iona for St John's. That would be the best the Big East could hope for in the short term.

In this scenario, can Villanova survive if Kyle Neptune doesn't get Nova back on track?? The Big East would be back to its coaching levels it had a decade ago.

Lost Holtmann to Ohio State
Lost Buzz Williams to V Tech
Lost Brad Stevens....Celtics
Lost Jay Wright.....retirement
Lost Steve Lavin.....fired
Lost Kevin Willard....Maryland

St John's hiring Chris Mullin, RU hiring Eddie Jordan and GTOWN hiring Patrick Ewing, all looked great and sentimental on paper, but all turned out to be very destructive.

Why would any respectable coach take a step back by going to Georgetown or St. John's?

Rick Pitino: that would be a lateral move. Besides, I think more significant opportunities are coming soon for him. SJU is now what it used to be and may never reach those heights again. It's hard to do it on a shoestring budget.

Richard Pitino: may have found his niche in New Mexico. The Mountain West Conference has a higher enough profile for Pitino to be successful. Georgetown would be worse than his time at Minnesota.

If Mike Young is dumb enough to step down in competition (& league respect), he's a bigger fool than I thought. The idea is to go up the ladder, not down.

Tommy Amaker has experienced the BS of the Big East, and I doubt he is interested in returning to that league. Amaker will either stay at his current position (Ivy League) and ride into the sunset when he's ready to retire or shoot his shot at one of the power conferences.
