I love that Saeed Blacknall sucks

It's unfortunate for the young man that he made such a life altering mistake by playing for Franklin, but I am glad that his story may serve as a cautionary example for future recruits.

4 stars, two + seasons, 18 catches, 200 yards. What a waste of a career.

It's hard to blame the kid when Elmer Flood was his recruiter.

In two sentences you managed to insult a young man for a decision he made when he was 18 and insult Rutgers even more by suggesting someone who can't get on the field on a mediocre Big10 team would be the #1 receiver. Well done.

Thats not all that insulting to Rutgers. Anyone can see we are absolutely desperate for playmakers at WR. Many, many receivers seeing limited minutes at other P5 programs would be starting for us right now.

As to Blacknall, our staff at the time was totally incompetent. While normally I shake my head when kids choose to go to programs where they will not see the field enough to ever go pro, in this case, I can't blame him. The right choice for him was probably neither school.

You should thank him. He was part of the reason for that recruiting disaster that ultimately led to Floods demise.

Disagree. Every NJ kid that spurned us you shouldnt want to do well. It bodes better for us when they leave and fail
There is a difference between not rooting for someone and publicly rooting against someone. It makes you look bad, gives Rutgers fans a bad rap and does nothing to support the program.

Noah Brown at Ohio State was the kid that wanted to verbal, but something broke down along the way of his goal of verballing to RU and him getting the offer from Ohio State....he broke a bone in his leg last year, but is back and looks 100% this year.

Blacknall is a mystery, he has the size, nice kid, but not a fluid WR...watched him twice live in HS and never saw a game changing player in HS, but I also saw Blacknall vs Sayreville and Myles Hartsfield. Hartsfield didn't want any part of tackling Manalapan that night and I would have felt Blacknall would have had the better career, figuring Blacknall would develop into a Brandon Coleman type player . Instead Hartsfield prepped after the Sayreville debale and is now at Ole Miss about to host Alabama next week and Blacknall hasn't stepped up yet.

The concerns at the time from the WR's recruited was the crop of QB's on the roster after Nova and that has proven to bear itself out as a huge factor. If we had landed a better QB under Schiano and Flood to follow up after Nova, we would have possibly seen a different result in recruiting. Hackenburg was in place at PSU along with other kids in the fold....At some point RU needs to step up it's QB recruiting, if you want better playmakers on the outside.

I watched Blacknall a lot in high school and he was definitely a class receiver, but seemed to fall into the category of kids who get by at that level on nothing but raw ability. He didn't take pregame workouts seriously, he was always showboating and was obviously one of those kids - one of the many, many kids - who would require a serious work ethic adjustment to compete at the highest FCS levels.

That said, the OP lacks class.

The OP made an idiotic post. I don't root against kids that choose not to go to RU, but can see why some do. But if you are going to rip a kid for having zero catches in a game, maybe do a little research to see if he played. I bet Tom Brady has a terrible game today.

As others have pointed out, Blacknall missed yesterday's game because of injury. Further, I don't think he sucks; he has plenty of talent. But he also happens to be in a WR group chock full of 4-star players. Only so many balls to go around.

zero catches yesterday. Kid would have been our #1 the next two years but instead he doesn't even get targets. Love it
He would not have been our #1. I said from the moment I watched his film that he only caught the ball when he was wide open, because of his speed. Even in his all star game he never out hustled or out played someone for a ball.

What a clown you are.
Stay classy.

Build a bridge and get over it Mr. PC. I find nothing wrong with being glad a kid that flipped like a day before NSD to our bitter rival sucks. I didn't wish injury or wish he sucks I just said I am glad he does.

Blacknall was our last hope for a 4 star recruit that year, the others decommitting before...... it was more painful because he
had just been down to RU before that announcement, and we all thought we were going to hang onto him.....

Hey. We have other things to worry about than Blacknall at Penn state. I'm more concerned about this team then that one. Leave fiu one be.

Opie, your thread would have been better (not good, but better), had you said you are glad he got no catches or doesn't factor into their offense like the other receivers. When you go on to say that a kid sucks, it's just bad form. And maybe it's just me, but perhaps giving our ordinary invectives a break on 9/11 wouldn't be the worst thing you/we could do.

This is why it isn't worth even thinking about. We have three 4*s already committed and Mitchell makes 4-4*s. Our future is very bright.

understood, but you have to reflect back on the emotions of the time.... the several 4 star recruits we had vanished, this was last and only hope of one coming that year.... now, I would rather he be recruited over at PU, where he would have been featured here and given all the chance in the world to make a statement..... if that is not a good thing to feel, so be it.

We definitely have the most UNDERZEALOUS fans on the whole rivals network. "Don't care that the recruit spurned us, wish him well!!!" My god. Yes, we should all root for such players, hope that they do very well, so not only do the teams we need to compete against win, but with any luck their success will help them recruit other NJ kids away from Rutgers, right? It's amazing that we don't have fans who realize that's how it often works.

A Penn State fan regularly posts here with a pic of Gerald Hodges. Can you imagine if a tOSU fan did that on the BWI board with someone from PA, like for example Terrelle Pryor? How long would that fan last? How long before the PSU fans ripped him a new one and/or he got banned from the site? And Pryor didn't even decommit from RU like Hodges did from Rutgers.

The nature of athletic competition is that it is a zero sum game. One team wins and one team loses. A WR and DB compete for a throw and one wins as it is either complete, incomplete, or intercepted. I root for certain teams to win and others to lose, and realize that successes and failure by individual players will cumulatively result in team outcomes. It sucks that so many of our "fans" either don't realize that, or have the type of "PC" mentality that is so disingenuous that it has provided a cause and opportunity for one of our Presidential candidates.

Believe his younger brother is a legit P5 prospect in 2018. No need to bash the kid.

Blacknall held out as long as possible. He would have committed to RU but it took forever for KF to name/find/hire an OC. I don't blame Blacknall at all since he wanted a chance to talk to his future OC before committing. Instead he took a bird in hand. No hard feelings at all.

Contained within the nature of athletic competition, as with all elements of society, are rules to guide (or enforce) acceptable behavior. It is part of athletics to be glad an opposing team's player doesn't do well, but is it okay to hope the kid gets injured? If you say it isn't okay, then you are saying there are acceptable elements of fandom and unacceptable ones, and it is a matter of degrees. Saying you are glad that a kid sucks merely because he de-committed from our three-ringed circus is outside the limits of decency.

I don't root for him since he's on Pen St, but, I don't have anything personal against him.

Take it for what's it worth but I know someone who coaches in the Manalapan area and he told me that Saeed still roots for RU except of course when it's vs Pen St.

In my mind, committing to a football and college community that had just been exposed for putting the interests of the football team ahead of the interests of dozens of molested young boys is WAY outside of the limits of decency. I don't wish anyone associated with Pedd State football well in any way, and don't give a rats ass if they play in the same conference as us or whether their winning in some way makes Rutgers look better.

I would have loved to have him it just wasn't in the cards. I say we worry about the future recruits and not the past. The future can help us get to where we want to be. The past is only going to bring us back to WHAT IF'S and BUTS. JMO

We have a lot to look forward to just get on board and support the hell out of our New Staff and team the REWARD is worth the JOURNEY

Not wishing someone well and wishing someone harm are two different things. Saying a kid sucks is far different than saying you're glad he's buried on the depth chart. There are still limits to what we should consider acceptable, and IMO players who commit to PSU don't change my approach to what I think my behavior should be. I always keep in mind that I might be wrong about someone, and I'd rather err on the side of not having been a douche when it may have been warranted rather than having been one when it wasn't. That's my standard, anyway, do with it what you will.
