If Pike Had Balls

He has no balls.

The second half was very tough to watch. Iowa made them look stupid. Every player on the team was out smarted.
Every game we give up too many layups

We either lose a guy on defense or one can get all the way to the hoop uncontested

We lose games on defense imo

We not only lost/gave terrible efforts but also our young guys Grant, Sommerville and Dortch barely played. I just don't get it

That only leaves Derkack, who can't dribble the ball twice without turning it over.
I will say this: DerHack is a great dribbler, passer and defender for someone who plays on both ends with his eyes closed.

Best on the team at doing that.

Iowa never stands still on offense. We stand still on offense almost all the time. Total lack of effort.
Not lack of effort. It’s iso or two man game by design because our players are all piss poor passers. Pike doesn’t recruit the same skill set as Purdue and Iowa does.

There isn't 5 guys on that team with any balls. Something is broken in that locker room. It's on Pike, but the players aren't helping at all.
That's what I can't figure out. Roster construction, recruiting and NIL aside, does the blame lay more with the coaching or the players?

Put it another way, could another staff get more out of this roster? I can't decide.

Not true on the ball movement. Our best games this year we had good ball movement.

In the end it doesn’t matter.

Both things can be true. Could another staff get more out of them? Sure.

Are they soft and carry a lot of blame for poor play? Absolutely.

Sure. To an extent. Just running a functional offense alone would help. But there just aren't enough B1G caliber players on this roster. Only so much you can coach up here

That’s what happens when your best players are freshmen. What’s most disappointing is the veterans and how sloppy they have been.

Amazing isn’t it.

Grant was playing well in first half in terms of being aggressive without scoring or the ball. Doesn’t get okay.
Lathan scores in the paint..plays against guys with 3 fouls each and we don’t even give him a look.

It’s bad coaching and if no one can see that go back and watch our inbounds plays

I thought this might be a joke from the title…..it goes, “if Pike had balls, he would be my Uncle, but he doesn’t so he’s my Aunt.”

Nope. Who pray tell passes with purpose ? Cuts ? Nobody. Never a coordinated 4 pass sequence.

Except for Martini, who of course understands team offense coming from Princeton, everyone is a shot hunter taking shots proportional to their place in the pecking order.

Harper’s high assist games were drives, drawing double teams and passes for layups. That’s not ball movement. That’s winging it.

Lathan was utterly exhausted after leaving his feet on the O-goaltend. First time jumping this year. Might also miss the next game due to the Herculean effort on that leap. Gave it his all and then some on that play.

This isn’t complicated. We don’t have the talent on the defensive end of the court. Zero rim protector and we didn’t bring in a good enough 4. No matter who you are, it’s very difficult to stay motivated during a season like this. Of course the players have a bad attitude. They’re losing and there is nothing that can change that. There is no mystery center coming off that bench. Coach messed up. College basketball and football are a mess with the NIL situation

Competent coach gets this team to the tournament and the second weekend of the tournament.

Speaking of leaving his feet. Throw a head fake to anyone on this team and they jump out of the building and we’re lucky if they don’t foul on top of it. We foul a 3 point shooter nearly every game. That’s Coaching 101.
