Rettig has little chance of success with Rutgers behing as they are and Michigan keying on RU's passing game.
Flood has made sure Rettig will have a hard time looking like he's better than Laviano the way Flood uses him.

Flood waits until we are down by 30+ and there are less than ten minutes left in the game and the team appears to have either quit or is dead tired before putting Rettig in.
