If we have a chance to get GS and don't do it, we will regret we didn't

So much nonsense about GS and the early years of his RU tenure and record. Seems many didn't sit through the lack of talent and institutional support during the Shea era to truly know how far the program was behind nearly everyone else. Or now understand how far we came to be from there to the national spotlight.

And you remember that best ever recruiting class that we had to hire an unprepared coach to keep toegether--who do you think was at the helm?

There was excitement here with GS. Sure he did a number of things wrong-all do. But he tried new things and continually tried to make it better. Stubborn for ethics, not personnel and systems, like any accomplished person.

Who else knows NJ and could go into living rooms and compete with Meyer and Harbaugh, and likely overtake Franklin in a few years. The nonsense I see about not getting to 10 wins or winning titles. Do you realize we just gave up 600 yards to a 2-9 team and have been playing a qb who went 4+ games without a td?

Do you know how far we need to come back? It's not a 10 win season we are looking at next year even with Saban, Meyer Lombardi etc. We need to right this ship and build the foundation again which was gradually eroded. There is no one better at it.

If in 4 years we are 6 or 7 wins and never better then it can be discussed.

But think about where we are now. And know that excitement would follow an announcement like we haven't seen in years and which none of the other candidates could bring. GS will coach again. This is a fortuitous window of opportunity we need to take.

I agree. He's not my 1st choice, and I will admit to being disappointed in what would be a very parochial coaching search...but if the rumors are true and it's basically choose between GS or his impostors, please get the real f-ing thing.

Man I can't believe how selective some of your memories are these days. Forget the early years, how about getting blown out by UCONN with the Orange Bowl on the line? How about an epic death struggle with ARMY BEFORE EL got hurt? How about almost losing to FIU? WV ring a bell? That being said, I have no issues with him coming back if he leaves the offense alone but some of you guys are really setting yourselves up for misery with your Alzheimer's.

So we should just be happy with anything better than Shea, right? What a lousy argument for bringing Schiano back. I didn't see very many people knocking down his door to coach in P5, so why should we?

as long as GS is reasonable, we will get him. we're not going to be held hostage.

By the time RU played at UConn in 2011, the Orange Bowl was no longer on the line, since both WVU and UL had won their games on Friday and they were the only two teams that held the tie-breaker over us. It showed in how the team played. Yes, they still could have tied for the BE title but the BCS game was no longer possible.

That aside, I have mixed feelings about GS returning, partly because he would have a shorter "honeymoon" than a new coach would with our fans, some of whom already oppose him. I do believe that he would bring stability to the program once again.

One question I have if GS is hired is - would he possibly add Brian Leonard to his staff? Does anyone know if Brian is interested in pursuing a coaching career now that he is out of the NFL? I have long believed that he would be a great coach and, I would imagine, a very good recruiter.

It's not anything just better than Shea it is that post Shea program was in tatters and citing the overall GS record and including the first few years is just outright biased.

And people seem to forget UConn beat wvu and that with Edsall, Rich Rod and Petrino there were some good coaches in the BE.

I think the NFL and time away will do GS good and will have refined his though process. But really if you want to strip all the arguments away, wouldnt it be nice to be excited about fball again? Is there any doubt he would bring energnd excitement to this program an rebuild the badly damaged foundation that the Flood years caused?

If he ends up at Saracuse or Maryland. He will out recruit anyone we hire except maybe Richt.

I see Richt at Maryland though.

Better than Shea, Graber, Anderson, or Flood. That's EVERY OTHER COACH we've had since we stopped playing Princeton and Quantico Marines. College football is mostly about recruiting. And GS was the only coach we've ever had that had a fair chance at successfully recruiting the best high school players in New Jersey. That being said, I can't see why he would come back here.

GS knows what it will take to succeed here. He knows what kind of assistants he needs. He knows how much institutional support he needs. He knows what upgrades the facilities need.

If GS comes here it is because he would be confident he could succeed. He would get the required monies for assistants and promises of upgraded facilities. And maybe even a golden goose promise of lowering the standards for JUCO players.

If GS comes back it is a sign that Rutgers is willing to do what it takes to win.
