I think today was a good test for us. The Johnnies are decent and we beat them 80-78. I think we are definitely improved. I think Geo and Doucoure will both get a lot better. Ponds and Lovett are really good guards and I think Geo might have been just a little nervous. He did make some outstanding passes and i think his shot was just slightly off. I hope that Mike's injury turns out to not be too serious. I think it is good that we have now defeated Monmouth, Yale and St. John's in our three exhibitions.. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's Court Club meeting as well as Friday's game.

Since it was just a scrimmage, I was hoping for a close loss. Don’t want this team getting ahead of itself. ;)

Wait, I thought the St. John's game was an exhibition. What's all this scrimmage talk?

The difference between that and a scrimmage was that both teams clearly treated it like a real game, for the fans there, bragging rights, things were getting a little chippy and all that. There were no Globetrotter-like tricks or throw-aways, both teams made each possession count. The starters were never pulled. Not like a "spring game" where you see the backups. You could see from both coaches that they wanted to win. If anything, the close game like that was perfect because it helped show our boys how to WIN the close game, which we couldn't do as much last season. We also made a big comeback, and also showed we could survive a minor collapse near the end, all good tests for our team, and most importantly we showed all those snot-nosed Jonnie fans that this isn't the Big East anymore and sent them home packing !!

I love that Freeman, Sanders, Williams & Omaruyi did well
but I was hoping for MUCH more from our other BIGs & the rookies.
Then again it was a tight game

Good point. The result didn't count, but it was otherwise just like a real game.

Gotta like how much noise is on the SHU forum about RU.

And then you look at our forum, and there is no mention of SHU. Just comical.

We really don't care about SHU until we play them once a year. Nothing else to really say.

Touché. You say exhibition, I say scrimmage. Bottom line - the result doesn't count.
True about the result, but big difference from a scrimmage with the coaches having control over game sutuations, length of the game etc.

Anytime Rutgers plays a NJ/NY Metro opponent there are recruiting implications.

I think that's incredibly overrated. Look at our roster - how many guys are from the area? And how often are we ever competing with St. John's in particular or even Seton Hall head to head?

Losing seasons with past coaches was the turn off for local recruits similar to football with the power house programs in North Jersey.Winning changes perception.
