The Norcorss machine does not forget. This is the latest attack fronted by Sweeney to bring Rutgers into the patronage mill. They are counting on people overlooking this. Call, email and write your legislators and let them know you will not turn alma mater over to the bag men and fixers.

Even if you hate the Star ledger you need to read this.

Bill increasing Trenton appointees on Rutgers' board raises ire on campus

It amazes me what a piece of sh*t this guy is. They simply do not forget as you said and are not giving up.

Why isn't this in other papers around the state? Have they already determined that this isn't meant as a serious proposal? I hate this time of year in Trenton.

At least this happened today. For what it's worth, Katz just had the medical school at Temple named after him after a $25 million donation and is a trustee. We all know how philanthropic George Norcross is to higher education.

"Higher Education" for these two means a school with a second floor.

A couple of real "road" scholars.

I wrote to my state senator Tom Kean Jr., who assured me that he will vote against Sweeney's misguided bill. Everyone should do the same and write their senators.

I've linked to a Philadelphia Inquirer story from Saturday about the BOT's meeting. I certainly hope the article is wrong in saying that RU administration only recently learned of the bill, although it was introduced in *March.* What do we pay our legislative relations people for?

Board of Trustees

Sweeney amended the bill to require that three of the four added BOG members have "professional experience in a medical field" but is so vague that any political hack could meet the criteria.

The proposed two additional members appointed by the governor:

"two of these members having professional expertise in a medical field with one of the two being an alumna or alumnus of the university"

The two additional members, one each appointed by the Senate President (Sweeney himself, the only sponsor of the bill) and Speaker of the Assembly (Vincent Prieto, the only sponsor of the assembly version):

"and one of whom shall be appointed by the President of the Senate and one of whom shall be appointed by the Speaker of the General Assembly. The member appointed by the President of the Senate shall be an alumna or alumnus of the university who has professional expertise in a medical field. The member appointed by the Speaker of the General Assembly shall have professional expertise in a medical field"

The bill, as amended, says that the added members have "professional expertise in a medial field" but doesn't specify what type of experience or for how long. They could get said hack to work in a medical office for a couple hours answering phones and still fulfill the requirement.

Thanks for your post. I thought the amendments had taken out the idea that either the Speaker or President of the Senate would appoint.

Sweeney claimed that the amendments were suggested by the chairman of the Board of Trustees, who promised to endorse the bill if amended. The chairman, whose name I forget, denies that.

People have speculated that Christie supports the Sweeney bill. But so far, a lot of Republicans in the legislature have opposed it. So Christie's support must be tepid at best.

All you need to know about how these potential appointments will go is look at the job the did with the joint Rowan/Rutgers Camden board.

First they hired a politically connected CEO at $275,000 for what is a basically a coordinating committee with no assets, operations or employees. Though the Norcross mill might start creating more sine cures like this one.

By the way this fellow just another political hack lawyer. If Medical experience was so important why not for this job?

Look at seven board members:

1) Former SJ legislator that fronted for the Norcross machine
2) Current Gloucester county politician from the Norcorss machine
3) Current executive of the bank Norcross is involved with
4) Norcorss' figure head mayor of Camden
5) Lobbyist for St. Baranbas hospital in Newark, an important asset in Joe Divincenzo's and Steve Adubato's Essex county machine, Norcorss' partners in controlling the Legislature via their North/South alliance
6) An alum representative from the Board of Trustees
