UConn stomps East Carolina 31-13. They are now 4-5. A pretty good turnaround so far compared to last year's 1 win season. Bob Diaco (Brian Kelly's DC 2 years ago) show a lot of enthusiasm on the sideline and appears to have his team ready every week. I see Diaco in the mold of Schiano, a defensive minded Head Coach, with a ton of enthusiasm, who is passionate on the sideline. He could be moving up and on a lot quicker than many thought last year. Oh yeah, he is from Northern NJ (Cedar Grove).

Diaco still needs more seasoning. He still makes some boneheaded calls, but will probably be a good coach in another two or three years.

UConn got pounded last week vs an average Cincy team.

He's got a real long way to go. Real long.

He is also struggling with recruiting and has some real curios viewpoints. I know a kid who is committed to a P5 program and Diaco straight up told his coach he wasn't good enough to recruit for UCONN. He told the same coach he wasn't going to bother recruiting high ranked players because it's a waste of time.

Anyone will struggle to recruit at UConn. G5 conference and a location in Conn will do that. Still, they played Mizzou tough on the road, and already has made the team much much better than they were the past few years.
He probably won't get a P5 job next season (although there are a hell of a lot of openings !), but in a 2 years he will. Great pedigree coaching under Brian Kelly and Al Groh, and seems to have resurrected a bit a putrid team. Just like Schiano did in the early 2000s.

have they beaten anyone good? They will have to upset Houston or Temple to make a bowl but how awful would that be if they made a bowl this year and RU didn't.

Some improvement over last year but long way to go. His half of the conference is the easier half too. BTW Mizzou's offense is 2nd worst in total offense at 126 and worst in scoring offense at 127 this year. Not sure what's happened to Pinkel's team but it's pretty bad on offense. On the other side though, their defense is top 10 in both scoring/total led by the DC they took from Memphis this year.

Whether it's Rhule/Diaco or whomever, I'd wait from some consistency of results before considering them for anything higher.
