In the endgame now...need to get Schiano signed today and make it official Wed

Tampa is much more on Tampa than Greg, who had a better record than either his predecessor or successor. And you can't blame TN on Greg at all, so bringing it up is just stupid. Same with the Pats. And OSU was great for 2 years and not so good his last year, but they had a ton of injuries to key guys last year.

He took the job so it’s not on them idiot. He could of said no thanks.

And there’s this nonsense. What other coach has done this.

Not caring where the money comes from is a luxury that Rutgers cannot afford. This is a fundamental question: Who is going to pay for the gilded football palace and everything else? It has never even been clear who is paying for Ash's $9 million buyout. At the presser , Hobbs said something about the money coming from departmental funds. But there are NO departmental funds laying around. The department has been running a huge deficit for years. So where is the money coming from?

Until there is an agreement on funding for all these proposed facilities, the deal is in peril.

It makes ZERO difference whether you, I, or anyone else HERE knows “where” the funding is coming from...THAT is my point...it’s getting done.

If there is no agreement on funding, then how in the world will it get done?

Actually, it very much matters where the money comes from.

Best case scenario, all of the money for Schiano's salary, staff and infrastructure demands comes from private donors. It shows private commitment to the program and insulates Rutgers football from the scathing editorials.

Worst case scenario, all of that money gets siphoned from general revenue, borrowed from the University and / or via bond issues. The PR pain just gets worse.

We all know NJ.com and The Star Ledger will be all over RU for years of fiscal ineptitude in the athletic department. If you read outside this forum many in the state are concerned about the reckless spending with Rutgers athletics. That’s why this hire has to be done the right way.

Of course, completely understand that, but OUR understanding of this is of little consequence a this moment. It’s either getting done, or not, regardless from where the cash comes That’s all I’m getting at here.

I'd like to see an actual story about how much the average tax payer contributes to Rutgers and then to athletics. There are way bigger things to be outraged about in this state.

Sct, I keep reading here that each New Jerseyan contributes a whopping 25 cents to Rutgers Athletics. As has been mentioned in other threads, we need to get creative with any new buildings. Have classes in them like other schools do so it can be listed as an academic building or have some type of parking garage to get it eligible for tax credits.

Sigh. Of course the deal will happen if the money is there. The question is *will* the money be there, which in turn depends on how much each of the players is willing to put up. If the parties together are willing to put up what Schiano wants, the BOG will meet. Otherwise we're not going to be able to hire him unless he cuts his demands. This is not a done deal until the finances are worked out. Why is that so hard for you to grasp?

With all apologies to Stephen Strange...with the season winding down and recruiting winding up, we have to get this done. Now. No more excuses about complicated contracts and legalese.

Agree...but I haven't seen any info about the BOG 48 hour notice.

It would be great to hear the person or group that is turning this into a lackluster mini series...instead of a blockbuster.

I know this is New Jersey where the guy whose only job is getting donuts and coffee makes $35 an hour, but is it safe to say we could build just an indoor practice facility for under $40 million ?

sorry but it sounds a lot like the Rutgers 1000 is still alive, especially in Camden

maybe Nunzio is being considered--just kidding--maybe not-nah
Although you're joking, it would be so Rutgers to have Nunzio as plan B. Give him a modest salary, hire good assistants, and hope for the best. The cheapest option would win out again.

I get where you're coming from. It's just my personal belief that my understanding of things is never of little consequence.

How is it a different topic when you start the same EXACT thread from the previous day?
And the previous day before that and so on

Again....by repeating the same exact thing....what are you hoping to accomplish ?
It’s the very definition of insanity!

gilded football palace? What the hell are you referring to?

The only new building that is part of this deal is the indoor football training faculty to replace the bubble, which was ALREADY in the plans according to the masterplan Barchi revealed a few years ago. This will just fast track it.

Ash's buy out can be pay with 10,000 season tickets sold. This was already explained by Hobbs weeks ago.

It can indeed. If we get Schiano. But still waiting.

The Board of Governors’ athletics committee is expected to recommend Schiano’s hire to the full board once university officials are confident sufficient support exists to secure a final approval.

The BOG must provide a 48-hour notice by law before convening a special meeting to vote on Schiano’s hire. That meeting would be open to the public; it would likely be conducted by teleconference at Winants Hall on the New Brunswick campus. A majority vote of the BOG members present would be required to approve Schiano’s hire and eight members would constitute a quorum.
