I am NEVER in the know, but I did get a piece of info from someone well-connected yesterday at the game...
Bullock will definitely not be back next year. There's a story that goes along with it that's long and complicated, but that's the bottom line.

What is the short and uncomplicated story, since you brought up a backstory?

Everyone's got a story....and then the dynamics of recruiting changes and other factors as well could change this from happening at all..... Not saying the story isn't accurate, but on the surface it would not be surprising, he's been injured a lot and has to compete against kids that are a little more B1G ready.

Last year it was Corey, Laurent were homesick for Florida, DJ Foreman was considered a potential starter or was going to leave, we were shuffling Justin Goode off the roster because he was overmatched, Freeman wasn't on the bench for games at a time and there was speculation he wouldn't be back.....then early in the year this year, it was Diallo that was headed out of town because he couldn't find minutes in the new rotation in OOC games and as the conference games started, his size and improvement suddenly had him in the rotation for 15-18 minutes a game....

Some things actually happened, some things changed and didn't happen.....always best to let things play itself, for all we know, Bullock could be eligible for a redshirt season this year and would still have 4 years to play....if he does transfer, he'd be sitting another season without playing...

To move forward the program must upgrade the squad with higher level talent as quickly as possible.Getting a 5th year small forward transfer for one year who is a shooter would be a smart move prior to 2018 where at least 5 players will be graduating.

Hawk-I hear you, and if I'm wrong I'll call myself out. But this source is extremely well connected.

Basically, that some of the writing was on the wall even before he set on campus, and the other part as soon as he stepped on it, pretty much. Thats all I'll say.

Is he thinking of transferring to a junior college until he gets an associates degree or to Division II in order to avoid losing a year of eligibility?

Unless you heard this directly from Bullock, it's a rumor and really shouldn't be posted on the free board. Not fair to the kid or to Pike.

Why not? People who are connected post stuff about all kinds of things all the time and no one says anything l. But if a mod has an issue with it then take it down (it would be a double standard though).

I would think there are a few players that could transfer, Bullock included but that does not mean anything is certain, things change, lets see what happens at the end of the year.

I highly doubt that your source is better connected to the Basketball program than BKin118

Not saying you didn't hear something from someone in the know , but I've heard in the know stories too often on the SN boards to believe most inside info claims.

That said, my guess is Bullock will leave and that's based on his lack of playing time .
Hawk made a good point that he would have to sit if he transferred, so can't say my guess is a good one, unless he can drop down a division and play right away.

All things considered, the only real surprising news on this front would be if someone had inside info that he would definitely be back. I really have to question why he got that 90 seconds of playing time in those 2 early games. Just complicates everything regarding red shirting/transferring unnecessarily. In the end I would guess that whatever happens those 90 seconds won't end up costing him a year of eligibility when all is said and done. NCAA won't want to be a villain again over 90 seconds of PT.

If he does decide to transfer the smart move would be to go to JC for a year.

Work on your game and be rerecruited.

I've heard nothing about Bullock leaving the program.

Doesn't mean he won't, but nothing out there at least in my direction on this
It might being kept on the down low, BK. But notice what I said in my post .... this was kind of predestined in a sense before he ever set foot on campus. The day he arrived on campus just clinched it. But if I'm wrong, I will be the first one to call myself out.

I still don't understand all this. Wasn't this Pike's first (or one of the first) recruit? How/why did Pike recruit him if he was going to play 90 seconds or whatever it was and transfer after the first year? Was it just to get in good with Doucoure (since they're good friends) or with the Roselle coach?

Pikiell was already a friend of Dave Boff, the RC coach as he had Warmley from RC as his star player at Stony Broof for 4 years. I don't know how accurate this is but at the Linden game last night in Allentown, Pa. I heard that Roselle Catholic now has a 7'2" kid from Africa who is eligiible to play this week. These parochial schools just keep adding kids year in and year out which public schools cannot do. The Patrick School added Angel Delgado 3 years ago in mid season from a prep school in West Virginia . These teams just keep loading up. Imagine RC now with Naz Reid and a 7'2" guy on the back line.

Bingo! Partly

Has he been a full go at practice? If so, how has he been doing?

Why post a super vague rumor only to follow up with "that's all I'll say?" A bit unnecessary.
How is this a super vague rumor? The source said he's leaving at the end of the year. I certainly can tell the story but I see no reason to. I have my reasons for not doing so.

The roster must be upgraded with shooters at every position. How long it will take depends on the coaching staff .

I actually agree with RUinSC. I wasn't told that he's leaving but I heard he is very unhappy with his situation with not playing this season and actually expected to play a lot of minutes

I attended RC years ago and although I don't know him personally, I know people who know him. Take it for what it's worth

If that's true, surprised that he thought thAt based on what I heard.

Regardless of the inside stuff (of which I have none), it was very clear to me that Bullock had no path to any meaningful playing time even after he signed. He is a 6'3" power forward (yeah, he is listed at 6'4"). In high school ball you can get away with that. In college, not so much - not unless you are a freaky athletic player (like Kent, a 6'5" center) - both with quickness and leaping ability. And I saw no evidence Bullock was all that athletic, let alone freaky athletic ... Perspective: Sanders is freaky athletic; Gettys is not ... but Gettys is 7' tall, while Bullock is not.

I never understood why Pikiell offered Bullock, to begin with - though I guess at the time, RU did not yet have Sa, Gettys or maybe not even Omoruyi (cannot remember the exact timing of Sa or Omoruyi). I know that in North Jersey he was a hero, and a high school star, and a lot of RU posters were pushing for him. And he had the reputation of being a lunch pail, hard worker, do all the dirty work on the court, plus hit 3's. But he never seemed like a high major player to me, nor what RU really needed (which was long, athletic front court players, OR dead eye shooters). That said, I would be happy if he proved me wrong.

Your assessment is accurate Jelly------he's a really good basketball player who physically doesn't have a Big Ten body type.

Can he become a contributor-----maybe but he has to get a lot better.

Right now he's just a square peg in a round hole conference.

He's a forward skill set with a guard's height... and we saw how well it worked having guards play out of position last year. If he were a dead eye shooter, he'd fit great at the 2... but it doesn't seem as though he is.

We need a quick release jump shooter for next year. Give me a kid with a Grayson Allen sweet jumper but someone who doesn't trip the opponents and get into fights. It's hard to find because there are a lot of great shooters out there who wouldn't be great shooters in the Big 10. This is an elite level so it's great shooting but with the speed to get open to a spot and not even think; just shoot and score. Every big 10 team seems to have two of these guys.

His arrival here had more to do with future recruiting and intangibles than playing time. Pikiell & staff are too smart to recruit a player without a solid chance to contribute against B1G competition, who might be our version of "one and done".
