I'm not a betting person but I'm guessing the spread over the next 4 games will be closer vs what we expect

oh boy.. and used three qbs to win game. We may have to score 40 points to win Saturday..lol.They totaled over 600 yards of offense also..and used a 4-2 -5 defense..one that Rutgers should try at times .given the lack of linebacker talent/depth and improving CB and Saftey play..

Uhhh, Yea, OK?

Do you watch a lot of college football? Because if you did, you'd realize that anybody who has a pulse has been racking up yards on the ground by the boat load vs. Maryland.

The only schools that didn't were at the beginning of the year. When they were playing Sister Mary's school of the blind and Father John's University for the disabled. But don't let actual facts get in the way of your Sky is falling mantra.

Stop it. The board narrative is DJ Durkin has done an excellent job turning Maryland around in year one and getting them on the track to being bowl eligible.

(until they had to face real competition).

Yup. The Twerps are going to get absolutely hammered each of the next 3 weeks. Mark it down.

And last year They were 2. -- 9 and were supposed to be win#5 for us. How' d that turn out?

I am getting WAAAAAYYYYYY ahead of my scarlet glasses wearing, blue sky seeing, brother from another mother of rutgers al self, but wouldn't it be fun if RU and Maryland were both 5-6 going into the last game and we were battling for bowl eligibility? Baby steps. Let's get past Indiana first and keep the streak alive. 3-0!!!!!!!

Even if it is not that battle--would be great to keep them out of bowl contention. So sick of hearing about people wetting their pants over Durkin.

This is good new for Rutgers. Maryland run defense is awful and will help Rutgers control the time of possession with our running game.

Our defense will be fine against Indiana's running game.

I hope so. We had 36 minutes time of possession last year, and our defense still got gashed.

Did Indiana use 3 QB's because of injury or in game decisions?

I see Diamont had over 100 yards rushing. He QB Indiana 2 years ago at RU. Believe that was his 1st start. He was beaten out this year by a JUCO transfer I believe.

Kevin Wilson likes playing 2 QBs. As you surmised, Diamont can run, and run well. He also has a really hot girlfriend, as was documented elsewhere.
The starter, Lagow, is a JUCO transfer.
Was looking at their roster. They have quite a few kickers and punters on roster. Hope we have that too sometime soon.

Porn stache(Diamont) played a lot this game by design. While Lagow my eggo didn't take the majority of the snaps, because they didn't need to pass much. They also had that bowling ball (6-0/270) taking wildcat snaps because they knew Maryland is feeble when it comes to run defense.

love the 4-2-5 defense and 5-2 in certain situations..surprised Ash hasnt tried it.

As pointed out by other posters, game decisions. They ran 2 packages. 1 traditional package with Lagow and Redding (or Majette/Williams). The other package with Diamond and Natee running exclusively a read option out of the wildcat (Natee) or shotgun (Diamont at QB). Obviously, it was very effective considering the last 3 games they've struggled to get any running game going.

One key factor was Feeney was finally healthy on the right side.

Good luck stopping the run with a 4-2-5 defense.

Tackling a 270 pound running back will be quite a chore for Rutgers undersized linebackers. For Rutgers to win they will need to score at lease 30 points because Indiana has a explosive /diverse offense which will be hard to stop with no pass rush and the inability to control the line of scrimmage for running plays.

Sweep the legs Johnny. Or Cioffi will probably try his flying wallenda back shoulder tackle. That one's work well for him.

you can by showing two saftey, then using strong saftey as a monster within 4 yards of LOS.,Just keep moving him around each play

Is Hester ready to go this week? Cioffi will get absolutely abused by that guy.

Indiana uses Ball in their Husky position. They'll move in around as you said and Ball is very much a hybrid safety/LBer that is very good in pass coverage.

Indiana has middle of the pack rating in rush defense giving up an average of 174 yards on the ground per game so far. Much improved from last year. They're tackling much better in space and their DL is more aggressive than last year

Diamont is much better, but he still hasn't set the world on fire. The JUCO QB (Lagow) has been up and down. IU has some nice receivers, but the Lagow has trouble getting them the ball in tight spaces. He doesn't trust his arm/abilities in a lot of situations. Against weaker competition Lagow threw 4 TD passes against 0 INT. Over the last 4 games against better competition Lagow has thrown 7 TD against 12 INT. Diamont gives IU better options with a running QB and he was the difference against Maryland. If IU doesn't win against Rutgers they will not reach 6 wins.

Btw, what would be the spin if Rutgers suddenly wins out, while Maryland and IU collapse? ESPN B1G blog would probably rank Rutgers no higher than 12th and CBS sports would finally rank Rutgers in the 90s.[eyeroll]

A power run game would give 4-2-5 defense problems. It would physically wear them down. Also, if you move that safety around each play, a good OC would have the QB check to a run away. You would use the safety as an indicator for blocking assignments like you do for the Mike backer.

IU scored 30 or more only against FIU, Ball State and Maryland. All other games have been in the teens to low 20s. It's similar to the smoke and mirrors Rutgers had in 2014 under Flood during their first year in the B1G. Pile up the yards against lesser teams, so when you struggle against the better teams it all average out.

While Indiana's offense was better last year, they continue to play competitive football against the better teams in the B1G, this year and last year. They were within 1 score against Ohio State up until the end of the 3rd quarter, the week after Ohio State beat Rutgers. Last year they took Ohio State down to the wire. This year they should have beaten Nebraska but came up short. Last year they played Michigan to double OT. They're still figuring out how to win games but their defense is most certainly improving and they return almost all their starters next year, excluding Green, Feeney

Why does that matter when they still lost to Rutgers the last 2 years? Football is all about matchups and Rutgers is still a good matchup for IU. Maybe the biggest change for both teams is the QB play. IU doesn't have Sudfeld from last year and it shows. Rutgers may have discovered a QB in Gio.

I agree it's a good matchup with Rutgers and look forward to a good game on Saturday. This year Indiana has taken a step back with Lagow (compared to Sudfeld), and a step forward with a better defense.

All I'm saying is I'm looking forward to the day when Rutgers can step onto the same football field as Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and play competitively for more than 1 quarter (in some cases 2-3 series) and seriously challenge for wins. Coach Wilson in his 6th season as HC has Indiana playing competitively against those programs, although they're not yet winning those games.

And who's the defender on this roster who can tackle like a LB and cover like a safety?

Rutgers played Cioffi upwards like a monster last home game vrs Illini..watch the replay.Hester just learned how to tackle this year..took big step up,now plays a more physical game,in past he would just dive downward to turf in one on one tackle spot.
Hoosiers just opened as 13.5 point fav.
