Indiana vs ASU

Archie working harder than his kids. Sweating like mad. They play no defense. That should change.

Never fails. I put the game on and the favorite pulls away. Indiana up 14 with 3 left.

Arkansas Stateonly down by five10 minutes left
I thought IU would blow them out at the beginning of the 2d half, but they let ASU climb back in and only got to double figures again with less than 4 mins left. Assembly Hall was recently re-done and is a really nice venue. The only sour note is the ghost of Bobby Knight. There are a number of impressive sculptures in the lobby, including one of the team that went undefeated the year RU was in the Final Four. Knight refused to be included in the sculpture. It used to be fun getting on Knight's nerves in the Barn when he coached Krzezewski against Lloyd. Wish RU was going to play here again this year, but I think we'll get 'em when they come to the RAC!

I thought Creen got kids to play hard when at Marquette. What went wrong at IU? I realize Crean is gone, but this has to be left over for him.

Does it has something to do with him recruiting in a different pool at Indiana then he did at Marquette and not getting thru to a "higher egoed " kid.

Maybe others more in tuned with Marquette could have predicted Crean not succeeding at IU, but it was surprising to me.

The best case scenario for RU is that it is a Griffin problem also! However I know it is way way way to early to even think that. However we saw what Rice and Pikiell do with rosters in year 1

Part of the ceiling at Assembly Hall was leaking last Sunday when it rained.

I just watched the Indiana vs Arkansas State game this morning in preparation of a game I'm covering tomorrow.

Arkansas State does a really good job of spreading the floor on offense. They run a 4 out 1 in offense, not a lot of ball screens but a lot of cutting and screens away from the ball.

Simms and Cockfield did a good job getting below and behind Indiana to score. I really like Tamas Bruce for A-State. When you play against A-State you have to rebound well and take care of the basketball.

Arkansas state will challenge you because they switch defenses so frequently. They play a couple of different types of zone defense and sometimes they spread out their Zone other times it's bunched. When they play man they switch a lot and they press almost one-third of the game. And it's not all about getting steals it's about making their opponent uncomfortable and getting them to do something they're not used to doing.

It's not that Indiana plays no defense they're still trying to learn how to play the packline defense. That could take them a full season.
