Input from Delany? and what do you do with it?

It has been mentioned that along the way some input has been obtained from Delany - in general terms and - possible in terms of kicking around names of candidates . Delany would not offer up anybody with issues - he might mention some highly regarded up & comers.... and he might subtly indicate some less than desirables that you might prefer to avoid.
... but what do you then do with that short list? gotta at least check them out.... and if you are going to go in an entirely different direction you have to at least make a courtesy call to chat it through.

Somehow figure that Delany gave a solid "thumbs up" to the AD move -

Sorry to say, but I just don't believe anyone outside RU wants a strong RU football team.

The Big Ten gets their TV subscribers and advertising eyeballs and that's all they need.

Oh yeah! They get to pay RU less than the rest of the conference it is supposed to compete with for 7 years. Delaney made that deal. Not sure he even wants RU to be successful.

Given he is the number one power broker in college athletics and the smartest guy in the room, they'd be crazy not to tap into him as a resource....and you can bet he wants to see Rutgers become a big time player.

What motivation would Delany have for not wanting RU to be as good a FB team as possible?

None. The B1G has much more to gain with a championship Rutgers than any other team. The media alone there would be amazing for the conference.

That's how I see it too. I can't see how having as many powerhouse teams in the conference does anything but help the Big Ten. And yes, if RU were to win a NC, that story would be a huge financial boon for the Big Ten.

I'm just curious what's behind @BigBlockR's theory.

I don't know what Delaney might say, but if I were looking for a new coach, he'd be one of the people I'd talk to about potential choices. It would strike me as a good sign if RU looked for ideas from the best people out there.

Paranoid much? They have their TV subscribers, but a strong RU team would bring in more advertising revenue from NYC. RU winning the B1G will make subsequent TV contacts worth more because the B1G would move from being in the NYC market to owning it.

Why put RU at such a disadvantage if they really want it to succeed?

Also, not sure it's in the Big Ten's best interest to have a dominant RU. Those wins come at the expense of OSU, Michigan, Mich State, and PSU.

One could argue that it makes mores sense for the B1G to hope RU does enough to keep respectable without upsetting the power of those schools that pack 100,000+ into the seats. The lack of financial parity makes me think just maybe the B1G powers-that-be do think this way.

Delany wants all 14 athletic programs to be successful. Unfortunately for each in-conference game, there is a loser, as well as, a winner.

Nebraska has a 7 year phase in, as does UMd, though their's has been front-loaded so they wouldn't have to take a pay cut from what they would have gotten in the ACC. But in the end, it will even out with ours. So this was not something strictly directed at RU.

RU got a jump up from where it was - on day one in the B1G - and like most established organizations, getting the equal share with the long term members will come in time
