Columbia beats Delaware State 70-65 and Columbia is terrible. Delaware State gave Villanova all they could handle, even though they lost by 10.

It tells me that Villanova isnt playing very well, so that Temple win might not be so impressive. I think we roll over Temple

Temple has talent. They recruited some nice players. Idk how good they are, but that's not a talent lacking roster

and you always have to be concerned when you play a team like that. Some of our fans are thinking this is a sure win, but that team is capable on any given night of giving people fits. But they are also capable of losing to Wagner. I have a feeling the good version will show up against us.

Texas just whipped Gonzaga 93-74, don't know when the last time Gonzaga lost by this much in a game.

Keep your eye on Grambling (2-0) that won vs Colorado and @N. Texas, they have two former top 100 recruits from class of 2017 and 2018 and 8 of their top 9 are upperclassman with a sophomore.

Exactly, as I said in the other thread - if Temple brings their A game, we better at least bring our B+ game to win and probably our A game if we don't have Caleb or Paul.

I've seen way more talk about people scared of Temple than people saying we are going to crush them

I like Rutgers defense against 1 elite scorer. I trust Pike to scheme to stop him. Mag could be huge here with his length and athleticism locking him down. Dunn lucky he probably won't see Caleb though

Agreed. If Caleb can’t go yet - Mag will draw Dunn as his assignment. But Battle can get hot too. He’s a mismatch for Paul IMO - too fast. One of our other guards will have to cover him.

Temple has the talent to beat us and many teams but let’s not go over board. They’re picked to be 5-6th in the AAC. If we want to be a top half B1G team this is a game we win. No excuses on this one. Take care of business

We’re likely missing 2 veteran players. Even if Paul plays he clearly wasn’t himself last game.

I think this is a pick ‘em kind of game.

Columbia was actually 8.5 point favorites. Which makes it even more perplexing that Nova struggled with Del St. It's not like it was some fluke win by Columbia.

No idea what to expect tomorrow but my gut tells me we'll handle business

RU72 must have been consulted. Columbia just looked overmatched by our length. They were definitely not comfortable offensively.

FWIW I think Paul knows Battles game from GSB and the whole AAU circuit (and Khalif’s brother)

The Temple team could be on the verge of imploding. If we come out hot and Battle is on the bench pouting, we might see some in game drama. He could be a cancer pulling the entire team down with him
Our game aside, I feel bad for McKie. I loved him with the Sixers, and thought he'd make a good coach.

I thought he would do better as a coach. Temple a tough job it seems. This season could be the end for him

I do like that he has the balls and integrity to sit Battle if he's not doing what's expected from him

Internal OT: A friend recently took his daughter to Temple. He said while the surrounding area is terrible it’s actually a beautiful campus.

10-15 years ago I was coaching an AAU basketball team and we had a tourney on the temple campus. Our starting center ( 6’4” 240 athletic kid) was being recruited by temple to play D line for them ( he ended up accepting that scholarship) In between games he wanted to walk round the area. As we were going to leave the campus the security guard pulled me aside and said even with him at your side you don’t want to leave this gate ( it was 12:30 on a nice spring day) He told me what gate to use and where it was safe to walk around

Why the distinction? Because they eked out a win against Delaware State?
Yes. Except for the part about eeking out a win. Columbia had a 15 point lead and got sloppy at the end. Similar to our UM Lowell game. The Villanova win over Delaware State was truly “eeked out” as you put it. That game was neck and neck the whole way despite the final 10 point margin with fouling at the very end.

Transitive property analysis is flawed but at this point, with so few games played it can’t be disregarded completely.

Temple might be a mediocre team but where they are dangerous is from the 3 point line..They had a 24 point advantage from the 3 point line (9-1) versus Rutgers which gave them a cushion when Rutgers made a late scoring run.
