The Iowa State opening has roughly the same stature/attractiveness as the Rutgers opening. Monitoring the candidate list for Iowa State should give us an idea of the candidates we should be discussing here.
If Iowa State is clearly lower than Rutgers, how did they land Paul Rhoads, with defensive coordinator credentials at Auburn and Pitt, and Rutgers landed a guy with offensive line credentials at Delaware and Rutgers?
The only way Iowa State is as good a job as Rutgers is if they are willing to pay more than we are. While at times I think the "sleeping giant" and potential upside that is thought to exist at RU gets overplayed, when compared to a school like Iowa State, it is accurate. Rhoads had his moments there but he and his predecessors have struggled to win with any consistency. I will give them credit for making the change despite a buyout exceeding $4MM. That does demonstrate a commitment we have not seen here.
They didn't care about keeping their Top 60 recruiting class committed. If Iowa State is clearly lower than Rutgers, how did they land Paul Rhoads, with defensive coordinator credentials at Auburn and Pitt, and Rutgers landed a guy with offensive line credentials at Delaware and Rutgers?

And that's simply because his buyout became affordable. We are the better job hands down. They kept him after 5 consecutive losing seasons, it took 6 for them to make a move.
