Hopeful for what's coming in (the endless mantra for a Rutgers fan sigh) but the reality is we're losing the only players who would have sniffed any minutes on any other B1G roster and will be relying almost exclusively on freshmen next season to bring any lift... is it realistic to expect any improvement next year? Have we not hit rock bottom yet??

It's hard to see us finishing anywhere but last-place in the Big Ten.

Penn State has won two conference tournament games - over Nebraska and Iowa.

They finished 13th.

We will finish last next year...the only school with a downward trend is Nebraska so maybe 13th place in 2 years. ..going to take a dynamic change to see movement...ie new coach

There is no light at the end of the tunnel because you would need a plan/map to get out of the abyss. In Rutgers case there is no sense of urgency to change the status quo.Its frightening to actually believe that next season could be another 2-16 league record or worse which will result in another double digit league losing streak. How long will the B1G stand idly by and allow such futility to continue?

No. EJ needs to bring in players who can score in the B1G paint. E2 has no O skills. Lewis has progressed but is not a closer. The others are projects for a MAAC squad.

Anyone watch creighton-Georgetown? If we move the ball and make the extra pass on offense and are committed on defense we can be better than people think.

Talent is needed to be a 20 win team. With scholarship players well coached team that plays together gets you 10 wins by default.

Offense is overated. We need to establish a defensive identity where we play with 100% effort from the time the other team gets the ball until we get the ball back. If you do that and stress that every practice, every game we will be in the game at the end. At this point that is all we can ask for

Kadeem was coming off a 5.7 ppg/4.7 rpg season when Eddie took over. Etou's number this year were better than Kadeem's Soph numbers. Heck, Foreman's frosh numbers weren't all that off from Kadeem's Soph numbers.

Players can develop. I believe, while young, this team will show progress next year.

I don't think there is any way Rutgers will be particularly "good" next year. What we would want to look for is improvement during the season and hopefully some signs that the players are progressing in both individual skills and team skills.

I think EJ is here for at least two more years regardless.

Yeah but why can't Foreman have the same upswing...we see the ability, just like we did with Jack...

Jack' last four games as Soph

6 pts/ 5 rebs
4 pts/ 0 rebs
4 pts /3 rebs
10 pts /7 rebs

Foreman's last four games as frosh

15 pts/5 rebs
0 pts/0 rebs
7 pts/4 rebs
4 pts/8 rebs

Freeman 26 points/17 rebs v. Jack 20 pts/15 rebs

I know facts suck and all and hindsight is 20/20, but Jack was in no way, shape or form anywhere near the player under Rice that he was under Jordan. There was no "HUGE upswing". Figment of your imagination. Etou's Soph numbers v. Jack's Soph numbers aren't close. Etou was MUCH better.

And you left out the 4 games previous...41 point in 4 games by Jack ..any bothering to watch 2013 saw the light finally came on the second half of the season....but go ahead rally around Foreman scoring in garbage time...DJ will get better and has potential but your argument comoaring him to Jack is flawed.

Next year is the last year of any of the previous staffs players and they won't see the floor except for maybe 1 player. The best recruiting classes NU has ever had red shirted this year or gets to campus next Fall and has a top 50 transfer shooter eligible next year. NU better be vastly improved or the natives will start to circle the wagons. I don't think NU will let poor results go very long before making a change. To much invested to just tread water in mediocrity or worse.

I agree and the main difference is our respective financial situations. You have been drawing well in the new arena and while it would represent a pretty quick fall for Miles, I don't think Nebraska will worry about eating a contract. Amazing how well both Nebraska and Creighton draw for Bball despite a more limited population. Is it about 2 hrs from Omaha to Lincoln?

as BAC says, Jack was on an upswing at the end of his soph year. So if anyone gives Eddie any credit for his progression, than he is also to blame for his regression this year.

Right, he was on the upswing. He averaged 6 points and 4 rebounds his last 4 games. He was setting the world on fire. Spin everything to fit your agenda.

Also keep in mind that we are comparing Foreman's FRESHMAN year with his SOPHOMORE year.

Everyone knew Jack was going to have a pretty good junior year being a main cog....you can't say that with Foreman for his soph year..its a bad comparison no matter whose agendas

I don't think you have seen the same Foreman that many of us have. I don't understand why so many of our posters constantly put down our players. Foreman rebounds and probably takes it harder to the basket than any player on our team with possibly only Daniels who also takes it hard.

I have seen a lot of his play this year. I do not care how hard he takes it to the basket. Flood can use some of those guys. I look at the finish. Skilled players can score most of the time. just watch most of the B1G players take it hard to the basket and score. Put down our players? 0-15 and counting

There are athletic players returning. Size is returning. A guard who can create and score coming in. Sprinkle some shooters in. Then let the team gel. This is the best approach to take looking towards the next two seasons. No one should expect to sniff the middle of the conference. BUT, the above is reason enough to be hopeful of progress (no guarantee) and with that, Eddie will be able to recruit (with the same MINIMAL progress). If that trend can continue for the next two years, then we can realistically expect considerable progress (from where we are now) to take place in Eddie's 5th year.

It's important for us as fans to keep scope. We all want massive change overnight but the fact is it's impossible. Everywhere. I believe Eddie can make the above happen. At that point, there can be real reason for the AD to improve basketballs resources. Also, if year 5 is stagnant (in comparison to year 4 and assuming limited progress was made in 3 and 4) a new coach will have a real shot at bring immediate inorovement rather than repeating the vicious cycle that the coaches here have been stuck in.

IMO this is the only way out.

Omaha metro has more than 900,000 people
Lincoln metro has more than 300,000 people
Often marketed as a combined metro of more than 1,200,000 people as they are so close.

downtown to downtown is 55 miles
edge of Lincoln to edge of Omaha is 21 miles.

75mph speed limit on the interstate between both cores.

Rutgers basketball should be playing in the MAAC. I could make a list of MAAC players who would be starters at Rutgers. At the end of the day, Rutgers (basketball) is not "B1G talent."

We take the best we can get. EJ has done that. No 4-5 stars are consistently coming here until we get a .500 + season. Foreman with 10-15 pounds can ball. We've seen good play from him.

As for as KJ, maybe EJ is to be blamed for his lack of play this year. Athletic as KJ was, he should've been given pick and rolls. Him and Mack at the top of the key. Instead, he was waiting on the 3 pt line. That was a mistake.

Yes there is light going to start showing because Eddie's third year will show RU is making improvement and it was overcoming what Rice did to the program that took his first two years.
But the dark side of the facility problem will make that light shine a whole lot dimmer then should be.
The talent Jordan inherited was overrated and Mack , though he did his best, wasn't suited for a PG role and a little smaller than
the typical college SG .Myles was best suited as a 6th man, but his heart and desire was that of an All-American.
KJ never reached the potential many thought he had and wasn't the type of player who could carry the load on a consistent bases.

Now the light will be on the team Jordan put together and if Lewis improves even more.
Rice proved to be fools gold , because Freddie's last season was just as good as all of Mike's and we all know Jr. wasn't suited to be a major program's HC.

Team was not getting better, just looked better than it looked under Freddie.
What was Rice's record his last season as RU's HC .leaving out Cox's 3-0 record.
12-16 if I'm not mistaken..
Not saying Freddie was better, but pointing out Rice wasn't as good a HC at RU as some seem to think he was.
MR did look good compared to Hill Jr, but anyone would .
Freddie did win 15 his last season, Mike matched that his first with Freddie's players.

You're cooking the books by isolating 3 wins because Cox was keeping the HC seat warm. Why do I suspect that you would have left 3 losses in?

Not cooking books, but might be heating them a bit.
Can't say if Rice would have lost or won those games, just saying only 12 of the 15 wins
RU had that season was with MR as HC.
Cox could have been facing cupcakes ( didn't check to see) and Rice would have won those games if the HC .
What Rice did all three years is have RU's season records under him, no better than Hill Jr's last season
and that's not showing he was a winner is what I'm getting at.

The light at the end of the tunnel is 5 years away, when real B1G checks start coming in. Then, only maybe.
