It should be very obvious to everyone now that Coach Schiano has learned a lot in his time away from Rutgers. In his first stint here he did an outstanding job but he was young an inexperienced. He made up for it in his work ethic and total control over the program. This probably helped as much as it hurt him in that he did not have the total trust of his staff or those who were under him.
Greg Schiano RUHC 2.0 is a much different man. He is older, wiser, more forgiving but not any less demanding of excellence from his staff and players. He is a man on a mission to bring Rutgers Football to the heights of the college football world. It is clear he learned a lot from his apprenticeship under elite coach Urban Meyer. Frankly, I see what Schiano is doing to be his attempt at being put in that rare category of coach as being "Elite". If he is able to bring Rutgers from the doormat of college football to a major bowl or better yet to play in a National Championship game, he will go down in college football history as one of the greats.
We all know what a project it is to turn around a football program as inept and poorly run as Rutgers has been the last few years. For Schiano to have done it twice at the same school would be an achievement that few coaches have accomplished.
I am very excited for the future of this program and cannot wait for the season to start. We are on our way to seeing some very exciting and awesome football in the seasons ahead. Its going to be a fun ride! GO RU!

It seems like the biggest difference outside of delegating authority, is that he will be in a position to use the challenge of the higher level of competition as an asset, which is why he keeps on asserting how the University is all-in this time.

I was thinking of more along the works of Howard S at Miami and then The Ville.

MIami was never more than awful till Howard got there and Louisville was maybe UConn levels ?

An exceptionally well stated and cogently expressed post. You have stirred within me,a deeply held feeling, for RU FB,that has not seen day light for too many years. Thank you.

Let's let him coach a game first.

Was astounded that Flood and Ash could not recruit better with RU being in the B1G versus an uncertain conference. Our talent level declined. I would never have believed that. Incompetence. Now, we get to see what a real coach can do given our stable P5 position. I like his chances.

Got my season tickets back after a 4 year hiatus. I am totally sold on Schiano doing bigger and better things than the first amazing time. Next year won't be pretty, but I will be there throughout no matter the outcome. After that I expect things will start to take off.

Things are aligning, with mbb, a new president who is not antiathletics, and facilities that are looked better all the time. I think the big time in athletics and academics is finally just around the corner. We will be looking at a top 25 university in every aspect within this decade.

Let's let him coach a game first.
Look at the coaches he has brought in. Some of the best specialists at each position group. Our OC really has been running some first rate offenses. look at the portal players he is bringing in.
the big test will be if he can convince
Don’t ruin it for the others.

Just look at the talent Greg is getting from the portal vs what we are losing to it. All signs are pointing up at this point.
Exactly! The talent we are getting from the portal is very good versus some of the talent we have lost.

the big test will be if he can convince the best players in NJ to stay at home. If he can stop the deluge of elite division 1 caliber players from leaving the state Rutgers will be a national powerhouse.

You've identified something I've felt for quite some time. Rutgers academics will benefit greatly if the athletics program excels the next few years. They go hand in hand as it's happened at Boston College. More student applications means a more competitive admissions process . And more success on the field means more donor support. Net result is greater overall recognition of the university's excellence.

BROTHERSKINNY, I like your post. I like it so much that I would like to add it to our video Return of the CHOP.

He has more to work with day one, but realizes the sense of urgency. Even year one has to show progress beyond W/L's to be able to sell the recruits. So far his pickups have been unbelievable.
Ready to start the process on the field.

In fairness it’s kind of hard to go any direction but up when you’ve have the worst football program in the P5 for the last few years.
That said as cynical as I’ve been towards the Greg hire (I might be the only Rutgers fan on the planet that believes he was a bad hire for us and still do) however I do recognize the talent he is bringing in that will help us win a few games in the short term. That in tune with renewed fan interest and a hopefully rocking stadium will bode well for future HS recruits. I understand transfers can help but the core of our team is going to be built on our HS recruiting. If Greg can pull off a miracle 5 win season all the sudden I do believe there will be a renewed interest in Rutgers football from HS recruits and we will start landing our fair share of sought after recruits
