Jay Bilas' preseason men's basketball All-America team

Interesting: Bailey can do it all, and will give Flagg a real run for freshman of the year. Why is Flagg on Bilas’s first team and Bailey is on his 4th team? Seems that They should be one two comparison rather than a one four. A little Duke bias?

Ace's game is more green than I would have thought from the few times I've seen him. Dylan is somebody whose game I would say is NBA ready - Ace is not there yet. While Ace is very athletic, and can score in bunches - his shot selection and playing within the flow of the game/team needs work. He has more upside than Dylan which may be why he's on here, but I would definitely not put Flagg and Ace in the same bucket today.

Bilas having a Duke bias is possible but it’s also possible that:

flaggs game is a little more advanced at this point and more conducive to high level of IMMEDIATE impact (first team AA right away) at the college level where as….

Ace is maybe just a little bit more raw (compared to Flagg) but has a super high ceiling (and thus why he is a projected lottery pick) but might not be ready to be a first round AA just yet

In summary: projected impact at the college level does not equal NBA value

True. But Dylan is talented and really advanced for his age.

I thought the same thing re: The St. Johns Game... but when I said so here others objected and made a good case. I had said Bailey could use another year of college.. and some read that as me saying he wouldn't get drafted without it.. I just figured he had stuff to learn and would be a letter pick if he could show it.

But others said he'd get drafted on potential and size, and rightly, I think, pointed out that he scored well in that game. And he did. I just thought he hit some tough shots that he cannot count on doing that in every game... that he shouldn't be taking tough shots but working on getting easier shots or dishing.. make the whole team better because he is going to get a lot of attention from defenses.

But they said that THAT is his game.. hitting shots from anywhere, anytime, regardless of defense. And if THAT is true.. well.. we are in for some special year here. grabbing the popcorn as I gave up my season tickets many years ago now when we looked at each other about getting ready to get out to another game and said.. "meh". Attending every home game is beginning to feel like a job. We had our time.. our decades. Time for others to take our seats.

Some of us will be in Vegas though.. because.. Thanksgiving.. again? It is beginning to feel like a job. Go Rutgers!

Flagg and Ace are very different players. Flagg isn’t the type of player that just takes over like Ace. Flagg is a do it all well round player that doesn’t really dominate the ball while Ace is projected to be more an Alpha that can individually take over. That is why Ace get the a lot of NBA hype, because his game is very suited for NBA play. He is going to have huge scoring nights as a Scarlet Knight. We’ll see how consistent he will be but so far he has shown there won’t be a lot of teams that will stop him. It will depend on if his shot is falling or not.
