Jonathan Taylor decomits

Is that not what my post suggests?

No you said "year over year improvement in recruiting RANKINGS." You can have good recruiting rankings and s#itty depth due to overrated players and attrition. Schiano's 2011 and 2012 classes are prime examples.

For instance...2012...we sign a super star WR in Leonte Carroo. Who were the other WRs who would be 5th year seniors now?

Ruhann Peele - left program
Ian Thomas - left program
Carlton Agudosi - overrated NJ kid who is inconsistent at best.

When Carroo was hurt or out of games we struggled. Now that he's gone we are struggling. The drop off between him and the next several players on the depth chart were huge.we need players to almost be interchangeable. But we need 3, 4, 5 of them at every position group. Even if they are "only" 3-star.

But the class was ranked #24 nationally. So rankings don't always tell the entire story.

I've only counted stickers in the Morristown train station parking garage waiting for my train to work, then I extrapolated to include all of NJ...is that not right?

Dude, just move to Hoboken and you can circle jerk daily with your fellow alums.

GO RU

You put your own words Out there by listing the 11 recruits that are apparently the only recruits that matter stating "these are the recruits ash was referring to..." I'm just inferring what a reasonable outside person would take from that statement...btw it's easy to cherry pick the 11 highest rated recruits right? I thought stars don't matter? Also though jersey football is overrated?

Yes I do, Mercer county raised, Morris county residing...Hudson county working...and I'm proud to say there are a Lot more PSU flags and car stickers in Morris county than RU stickers and flags...

That would be 2008 when we won the B1G conference championship and went to the Rose Bowl, finishing ranked #8 followed by a second #8 ranked finish in 2009
I live in Mercer county and I take route 1 on the way to work. There are WAY more Rutgers Rs than any other college on cars and it's not even close. I can't speak for Morris County, I'm sure there are probably a good amount of PSU fans there. The richer the counties, the more likely parents are to send their kids out of state.

You are a typical NJ PSU alum. There always seems to be a bit of cognitive dissonance among you guys.

A typical NJ PSU alum in that Rutgers was the safety school we all applied to because getting into University Park out of state is very hard?

Getting into any state school from out of state is harder than the in state school.

It's harder for a NJ student to get into RU than it is for a PA student to get into PSU.

PSU's SAT profile:
  • SAT Critical Reading: 530 / 620
  • SAT Math: 560 / 670
  • SAT Writing: 540 / 640
Rutgers' SAT profile:
  • SAT Critical Reading: 520 / 640
  • SAT Math: 570 / 700
  • SAT Writing: 540 / 660
There are many people in Pennsylvania who don't want to go to the state school just like there are many in NJ who don't want to go to the state school. You're not special.

I got in. Chose RU. Liked RU's exercise science & physiology program better than PSU's Kinesiology program. After having gone out to visit my grandparents in bumf#ck Mt. Union PA evry year as a child (about an hour due south of state college) I decided central Pennsylvania wasn't the place I wanted to be. My best friend and I took the official guided tour of PSU and stayed the weekend. He went there and I went to RU. And yes, RU was half the price which all things being equal is huge. So we sucked at sports when I was there. Big deal. Still had a blast, made tons of friends and got a comparable education for nearly half the cost. So safety school my ass. It's a safety school if you are applying to MIT, the Ivies, a Duke or Northwestern, etc. Not Penn State.

I realize that recruiting is what draws many to message boards but like someone said above nothing matters until signing day. We need to understand where we are on the football food chain and that a "verbal commitment" doesn't mean a lot to a segment of the HS kids who give them out. Particularly where RU is concerned. I might have thought the result of the OSU and Michigan games might have cost us more but so far it seems like we have a group that generally believes in what Ash is preaching. Long way to go so best not to get too invested before late January.

Same exact situation for me. Rutgers even gave me a sizeable scholarship while PSU gave me nothing.

I LOVE Philly. I Love Pittsburg. happy Valley and the like area bunch of tards,

I don't get it. You're suggesting that improving recruiting rankings every year is not likely to improve depth. That's wrong.

Carroo was the highest rated guy. They guys lower rated were the guys not as good. Better recruiting every year means more guys like Carroo lol.

Not that it matters but Peele was a player while here. It's better to have higher recruited guys and have our administrators do their job to keep everyone in good standing then have less recruited guys who don't provide better depth. But again thats neither here nor there regarding Peele.

You are missing my point. We are never going to get 3 to 4 Leonte Carroos per class. No one really does. You need balance in recruiting the position groups and you need guys who can play where the drop off after the starter or #1 guy is negligible at best.Best example. Go look at Michigan State's classes between 2011-2014 or so.

If I was a star high school football player about to head to college on a D1 scholarship, the last thing I'd want to do is end up at the same undergrad as my girlfriend.

An entire episode and then some was dedicated to the antics resulting from just that..

The board is freaking out is that you don't commit to see if you can get a better deal somewhere else.. No one likes being played whether you are a girl or Rutgers. It reflects poorly on the kid, his parents, his coach, his priest, his God, and his school.

We have coaches who are not proactive and issue a decommit as soon as a player dangles one foot across the NJ border crossing.

I truly believe that every RU fan on this thread will agree that we need to start winning. Please trust me, winning helps a coach make the argument to come here and play. Unlike many on this site I truly believe we have enough talent to go 6-6 next year. Familiarity of coach Ash's offense will go a long way with next year's starters. If all goes according to schedule in 2018 we start winning the games we are supposed to win and more important start stealing one, two or three very close games. It is my sincere hope that we start next year's momentum with an upset win over Indiana. Please go to the game, make noise and STAY TO THE VERY END!!!

You can believe it but that doesn't make it true. The opposite holds true as well. But the evidence, facts, history, etc supports the latter moreso than the former.

There is a reason why Ash has crafted his recruiting pitch absent of wins/losses and acknowledging a significant uphill battle.

I'm glad he's done so and sans one decommit who always wanted Wisconsin the message is connecting with recruits.

I've lived in Morristown for 10 years. Grew up in Morris county and work in Morris County. You're just wrong there's no other way to say it. There's probably conservatively 2-3 times more block R's on cars than PSU magnets. Which seems likely considering there's many more RU alums in the area than PSU.

At my Morris County based company there's 6 RU engineering graduates and not a single person who attended penn state. There could be an equivalent local company out there with 6 Psu grads and no Rutgers grads. But that seems unlikely.

It's right above. Ill execute the inference; "...[an] uphill battle to be competitive".

How do you "issue a decommit"? Kid was always a soft verbal at best. No one on here knows exactly how the staff is handling it. They could still be recruiting him up to LOI or they could move to fill his spot within the next few days. If the kid has a committable offer to his top choice than why hasn't he verballed yet? Seems to me he never really wanted to be at RU, committed in May to hold his spot and once he visited Wisconsin he started wavering. And that's completely ok. Plenty of backs out there who can help us.

Todderick interview this morning, which was a click-through indicates he is "leaning" towards Wisconsin but still wants to visit Yale an Virginia Tech. RU is still apparently in the mix.

I worked in a wealthy area of Morris County for over 2 years. I took 24 most days, and the "poorest" town that goes through is what, Whippany or Florham Park?

And RU magnets were everywhere, way more than Ped. My god they are delusional.

And it's harder to get into RU. Our SAT and GPA are harder. No one is impressed with a degree from there besides their own alums.

This isn't even close to true. I have lived and worked in Morris County my whole life, there are more Block R's and Rutgers stickers then all other schools combined.

This shouldn't be surprising. As another poster mentioned, there are objectively way, way more Rutgers alums living in every part of New Jersey than any other school. Obviously a significant number of NJ residents go to PSU, but it isn't even close to the number of New Jersey residents that have ties to Rutgers.

Just a courtesy at this point.

Yup. Exactly right. -And unless something really unexpected happens, (and I mean really unexpected), like Wisconsin for some reason pulls his offer, (which won't happen), you can color Taylor gone.

There are other RB's out there available, (Devin Darrington for one, whom I've liked as a prospect for a while now), and I think the RU staff should, and will, put their main efforts into securing a commit from a recruit who truly wants to be here.

IMO you guys should let this thread die. Half of you are bashing the kid that is still committed to you.
As for not bashing the kid, agree .
But for saying he's still committed to Rutgers
Please explain this twitter announcement from him that was posted in the On The Banks blog :

I was referring to the half (ok maybe it's only 1/3) bashing Lovett. There's been bashing of each in this thread and as of now Lovett is still committed.

EDITED TO ADD: I think we're recruiting Lovett as a safety, more than an RB, we had Pitts decommitt and go to WVU. My guess is he wants to play RB and stays committed to you guys.
