If my understanding of the "trade" is correct, it would have very little downside to us (Rutgers). It would be something that Lesniak can provide CC legislatively in exchange for state money to RU.
Ok. You know how I've felt with anything coming from Trenton with regards to athletics because of the way they may poke their noses in our biz down the line but if that's the way it is that's the way it is.

Not going to get into all that. I just wanted to share what I heard. And it seems like RU is willing to play ball with the big boys. not saying he's interested in RU or he's coming here. I'm just saying that RU reached out to him.

When a guy like Richt is available, you have to talk to him...

He's not trolling. I've heard both names in the last 30 minutes.
OMG-bird.gif

It's really not a troll post.

I've heard the same thing from 3 different people in the last 30-45 minutes. All 3 of whom were way more right than wrong on the events of the last 10 days.

I believe RU has contacted Kelly. Where it goes from here, no idea. But I believe it.
Wonder if we know the same contacts???

I had not heard Chip Kelly, but why not. Even if it's a long shot, we may as well try for the grand slam.
LOL. I almost just spit my drink out. Most definitely a grand slam but I'd even say Chip would be 2 grand slams in the same inning. It would be OUTRAGEOUS!!

I think Chip has his bags packed. Winston and Stafford threw 5 td's against him. Fans have turned on him. He traded foles for Bradford lol, Jackson was cut, traded shady, and lost Maclin. After Brady throws 3+ td and a beat down against the Eagles safe to say he might do a bobby Petrino.

Wait, what?!?!
That, to me, makes it sound like Rutgers gets a state-funded basketball arena and/or the practice facility is now a done deal in exchange for Rutgers getting a grand slam football staff? I think I've been a fan for too long to believe that this stuff would be possible.

Chip Kelly is still probably a pipe dream but pass the pipe, lol. He's from the northeast and it's not a far jump from Philly to NJ so what the hell.

This can not be true. The genius attorney (oxymoron?) was blabbing all day yesterday about how alarmed he was about the political appointee AD.

woah woah woah....pump your brakes...

I didn't say ANYTHING about a hoops arena...lol

Guys lets not get crazy. I'm just passing along that RU is ready and willing to pay a top flight coach. If we can't get one then its ok but they are trying.

contact John Harbaugh Please!!!

but i would be ecstatic with any of the aforementioned.

It's not exactly clear to me where the money is coming from, as I've heard two separate explanations for the money, but both sources mentioned the same names. Names that would break this board. lol

One scenario is some sort of political horse trading between Lesniak and CC and the bulk of the money comes from Trenton.

The other scenario is this name(s) is so big that the donors are willing to pa
What about the scenario that Jim D wants a strong MD and RU to keep eyes tuning in to TVs and helps some how?

Picture this....chip wants back in college but doesn't want to move out of his sweet cherry hill mansion.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

The money has always been there. The question is if the willingness to spend it was there. Maybe we're seeing signs that the willingness is there.

One path forward is to spend the money it takes to start winning in the Big Ten regularly. IMO, this has the best (and only) chance to get some form of ROI on the investment. I think Delany will have advocated for this approach when they consulted him. It's not a sure thing, but it has the best potential.

Another path forward is to keep spending lower-tier money (vs. our conference mates) which is most likely to produce lower-tier results w/almost no chance of any reasonable ROI on the investment. I view this as throwing money away. In our market, with so many other entertainment options, if you're not winning, you're dead.

I am of the opinion that RU cannot survive as a Big Ten program by taking the second path. It will cost lots of money without producing enough wins to pay for itself. Even if we luck into findind a lower cost coach that produces, that coach will be lured away with bigger money.

So yeah, I have a feeling that the RU admin understands all this and was biding it's time while waiting for more Big Ten money to roll in. This past season was a step too far in the wrong direction, so they may be doing now what they intended to do all along.

At least I hope that's the case. But I'll only believe it when I see it. Rumors are just rumors.

That's fine but I like the effort.
I heard it will be Richt with Kelly as OC and Schiano as DC.

Heck, if we're speculating, might as well speculate big.
Too small, Gruden HC, Kelly OC, Cowher DC.
