Notre Dame drops to 3-6 with a loss to Navy.

Texas pulled out a win against Texas Tech to go to 5-4 but Charlie Strong's seat must still be hot.

Michigan State dropped to 0-6 in Big Ten play for the first time ever.

Finally, Maryland was blown out by Michigan 59-3. Michigan racked up 660 yards, 60 more than they gained against us.

A few other scores that caught my eye:

Clemson 54 - Syracuse 0. Yes, I know we wouldn't have done better. Still makes me feel better though. Call it a psychological disorder.

Louisville 52 - Boston College 7. Ditto. Recall it was just eight years ago we led Louisville by 49 at the half. If they can do it so can we.

TCU 62 - Baylor 22. I suspect Baylor's glory days may be coming to an end.

Washington State 69 - Arizona 7. Poor DickRod.

Colorado State 37 - Fresno State 0. Where was THIS Fresno State when we played them? They may be a bad a team as there is in all of FBS.

LSU/Alabama in a scoreless defensive showdown. Aranda's defense containing them so far and of course Alabama's D doing what they always do. Thought Alabama would win this but that this game was their best chance to go down from what's left on their schedule.

Big goal line stop by LSU's defense there when it looked like Alabama might break open the scoreless tie.

RU fans can personally find interest in all these games except for Baylor, which still is interesting

Just saw a story referring to a tweet from Darren Rovell that Phil Knight is willing to throw 10M/yr at a new coach for Oregon. He's 78 and wants a title.

I knew Knight would control Helfrich's fate, didn't know he was willing to go that far. The number certainly has the shock value but who out there is really worth that much. It's like Charlie Strong at Texas making 5M, I was questioning if he was worth the 3M bump (when that was considered premium) Louisville gave him after his Sugar Bowl victory because I wanted to see "life after Teddy" before handing out the big bucks.

Saban would be worth it but he's not leaving Alabama. Urban isn't leaving OSU. Harbaugh isn't leaving Michigan but I do think maybe seeing how quickly a good coach like Harbaugh can turn things, in addition to his age, might be fueling Knight's desire to throw around the big bucks.

A return of Chip Kelly, now that would be something and I think he'd be worth the gamble/money. Get him a top level DC like Aranda maybe and I think that would work. Who else? Bob Stoops? He's a superb coach but is he a guarantee at instant contender? Maybe if you throw in some more dough to reunite him with Venables from Clemson. Many coaches will take that money obviously but how many will get you to that instant title contender spot. Not a lot out there. I'm not as familiar with NFL coaches out there.

I for one love the oligarchy our country has become, where billionaires throw their money around in sports and politics to buy whoever and whatever their big egos want and screw the guy who doesn't have his own patron.

We had this a long time ago. It was called the Southwest conference. The only difference is back then, the money went to the players.

I brought this subject up about Kelly's under achievement awhile back I predicted over a month ago that Notre Dame would not make a Bowl this year! With only 3 wins thus far with remaining games against Army, home against VA. Tech and on the road against USC, I will stick to my prediction and you will here more and more from South Bend about the Kelly situation. It's going to get ugly!

What is Rich Rod doing? Talent edge goes to Arizona in the matchup with WSU, and how does his team get thrashed?
Maybe its all about the QB. Luke Falk has continued to mature and develop as a QB--his completion % is 74.1%, and his TD/INT ratio is 28/5 this year.
Arizona's QB seems to be a question mark still. They are 104 in passing offense, but still ahead of RU.

Washington State Rank (avg. rating)/ Arizona Rank (avg. rating)
2012 -59/47
2013- 51(2.6)/37 (2.88)
2014- 69 (2.74)/28(3)
2015- 47 (2.8)/ 41 (2.8)

Washington ST has a very good QB. Again it goes to show other teams get blown out.

Kelly has always been a bit of a bully. I recall when he won as Cincy a big reason was he threatened to pull his QB's scholarship. Maybe thats a legit way to go when a player fails to perform, but every time I see him walk on to field to collar and ream a player who just made a mistake it doesn't seem like the ND way to do things. Why would a QB go to ND knowing Kelly would be a foot from your face a dozen times a game? He's still a DIII coach in ways

Yeah, other teams do get blown out! Let's just take a look at yesterday when a #10 Nebraska team gets blown out 62 to 3 against Ohio State. I know Armstrong got hurt in the game, but still, we did not give up that many points to them. If you don't show up that day, you get blown out against a superior team.

Alabama wins. Great defense, suspect offense. A beatable #1.
Definitely a great defense, IMO beyond their even usual high level. I don't know that I'd call their offense suspect though. Going into last night's game I think their total offense was ranked in the vicinity of 15 and their scoring offense top 10 or so. I just think Aranda did a great job with LSU's defense. I think they said the shut out at the half was the first time since 2007, when Saban took over, he got held scoreless in the first half, ended up being through 3 quarters.

Their offense is nowhere near the level of their defense but I think still very capable of running over most teams. I think LSU just did a great job on defense last night.
