Laviano lashes out on social media

I don't and won't hold it against him, it's young and stupid. So whatever.

However, make no bones about it, this is just another example to add to the massive pile that Flood has little control of this team and deserves to be fired.

Not as embarrassing as people who boo a QB that has thrown for 344 yds and 4tds.

BTN and everyone else has said that this was classless but you are not embarrassed by the booing, you are embarrassed by someone calling you out. You should be like these college kids now a days and go find your safe place.

I'd like to think we want our student athletes to aim for more than simply beating the lowest common denominator. I'm not saying I wouldn't have done the same thing but I admit that I have not always done the right thing.

Maybe you should look at the cost of college education these days. You think other college students don't work while in school or have jobs to help pay for things? Laviano gets over $100k through 4 years of free education and $4500 per year to make those practices and fitting in that schoolwork. There is ZERO excuse for such behavior. ZERO

Oh give me a break! With financial aid, scholarships, grants etc. Most people don't pay full tuition. Would it be expensive for some? Sure. But tell me what a great free ride eric legrand got. These players aren't just playing flag football here. Especially with the CTE findings, these players risk their bodies every day.

I just find the people saying 'it's the coaches they're booing' delusional

To me the post didn't just address people who boo'ed (which I don't endorse) but those with any legitimate criticism of the players, coaching staff, etc. That's what really upsets me.

If he has a problem he should go find another team.

Tough on on Laviano. He's had ups and downs during the season but yesterday he played a very solid game. He led the team to score enough points to win and is not calling the plays nor is he responsible for a leaky defense. Any booing yesterday was totally directed at Flood. The Rettig incident was poorly handled as he could have at least let him finish a series.

But the ending of the first half was typical of why Flood gets booed. The team and Laviano were hot and scored on just about every possession in the first half and had the opportunity try 2-3 passes downfield and even get close enough to try a field goal and add to the lead. The exposure was not that great. That's why people booed...and if I am a player I'm asking the same thing....coach, why are we taking a knee?

exit stage right.....maybe he will find another team when the coaching staff comes in and makes better football decisions

Get a life everyone. He's just a 20 year old kid, subject to a season's worth of criticism from fans , and the lightening rod for abuse better directed at Flood. Although I , like many others , thought Rettig should have been given a better opportunity to play, the fact is Laviano played reasonably well for a first time starter against fierce competition. He had guts , avoided Nova stupid interception meltdowns, and by most accounts executed the offensive scheme. The problem with this team was Flood and his coordinators . Flood for failing to add quality depth in his past recruiting classes (no quality linebackers and safeties, no playmakers at wideout ) and coaching, especially on defense. Not having Hester and Gopre as true freshmen hurt. Rossi didn't make in-game adjustments, its pass defense scheme and blitz packages were awful , and on offense Rutgers playcalling at times was very questionable, witness the second half meltdown against Maryland..

Let' s bring this back to his game! For a D1 QB he has tunnel vision to a receiver that he is throwing to. That is why good D backs cover our receivers. Without Caroo, he is a below average QB. 2/3 of his TD were to Caroo this year and he set 2-3 other TD'S yesterday.

I believe part of the problem is a outward perception from this "instagram," at least in the mind of this player, that the status quo is acceptable, whereas the majority belief is that some degree of change is needed. So the perception is that this player is putting himself in front of needed change. I know that's not his intent, but that's what it looks like.

The booing was a poor decision but lashing out like this is an equally poor decision.

Which raises the question: Where's the leadership in this program?

Well said. Anybody who blames Laviano for this mess of a season needs to have his head examined. If he wasn't good enough to play, Flood should have pulled him. Everybody is so sympathetic to Rettig...imagine being in Laviano's shoes this year?

Find another team! OK...Stanford!!! A real football team with real student athletes and a real coach. Done.

I've been thinking about what other teams I can route for and go see on a regular basis. I decided to route for all of the Academies in this order...Navy, Army and Air Force. After last nights game I decided to add Stanford to the list.

Sorry but this is totally unacceptable.

I won't link to NJ.com who posted this because it's just an instragram screenshot, but, shit man. Seriously.
Funny thing for CL, he just proves once again why Flood should be canned. Lack of control over the program and student athletes.

Man, Laviano won over so much sympathy yesterday, and he just threw it away.

He should realize the fanbase is not against him - they're against his stubborn coach.

No the fan base is against him and the stadium booed him. Booing had zero to do with Flood.

He is a young man with feelings.

Booing him was wrong, but the instagram move and waving his arms at the crowd showed a lack of leadership as well. Both sides did stupid moves imo.

I actually like the kid more now after seeing that! I was not at the game yesterday but for people to boo a kid at anytime during their career here is uncalled for. I get it may act towards the coaching staff but these kids play for the staff and take it as if it is directed at them.
I was a strong believer in change and wished I saw Rettig this year but Laviano played as best he could and took a lot of criticism. He was doing what was asked of him. It's unfortunate for him really.

Cue the apologists who will say "oh leave him alone. he's only a kid and thought he was booed". As a matter of fact this was brought up in that hilarious press conference post game. Fuud should have went into the locker room and talked to the kid. Instead, hours later we get the middle finger from a QB who is right now marginally more talented than Ted Trump or Chad Schwenk.
Stop exaggerating. Ted Trump? Chad Schwenk?

Maybe you should "route" for the local community college while you take English Basic Skills.

Sounds like a real good idea to take on the fans. Priceless

Also sounds like if Flood goes, so does he. Didn't boo the kid yesterday, but can't say I won't in future.

I was not at the stadium and would not have booed but you are WRONG. The fanbase is not against him. The fanbase is against Flood for the way he has treated Rettig all season long. When a young QB like Laviano is struggling mightily in game after game, a good coach would replace him with the 2nd string to see if the team might get a spark. Nobody that I've seen has ever said simply give Rettig the starting job because Laviano is struggling. People have said, 'let's see what Rettig can do'

In yesterday's game, Laviano got CRUSHED. He's out for one play, Rettig comes in. Immediately after the play, the coach takes Rettig out for his golden boy. For all the people who think Laviano was treated poorly (and he was), how was Rettig treated there? We've seen Flood take a time out in order to PREVENT Rettig from seeing the field when Laviano had to miss a play because his helmet came off. Now in the FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON... Laviano possibly gets hurt and Rettig isn't even allowed to finish one friggin' series of handing off the ball.

Sorry, but this is ENTIRELY on Flood. He caused this problem. It's unfortunate that Laviano has to deal with it, but this is what FAVORITISM does. If Laviano was the #1 wide receiver that failed to catch a pass in 3 straight games, it's doubtful he would continue to be the #1 wide receiver. If he was the #1 running back that fumbled in 2 or 3 straight games, would he remain the #1 running back? Laviano went nearly half the season without throwing a single touchdown pass. In most of the games, he led the team to field goals, not even rushing touchdowns.

Flood had EVERY REASON to see if another young QB might have done better, he chose not to. And Laviano suffered the booing because of Flood's decision.

Exactly. I thought he acted so cool going back in amidst the boos. He didn't deserve the boos but he's just another classless act in this program.

Can't root for Stanford. They run a pro-style offense.

I get the feeling that people on this board think that RU Football players are like robots? People do stupid things - especially 20 year olds. He's an emotional college student coming off a really good individual effort where he feels he was boo'd by the RU Fanbase after an injury. The interesting thing on this board is that we expect him to act like a leader and with decorum - but at the same time people here 2 to 3 times his age continue to defend the actions by the fanbase as no big deal as we are condemned in the media for these actions.

As the fan base, we should all email this photo to Merger Bob. Let him know that when he sends the fundraising letters and season ticket renewals, we may "find another school".
I mean....I love Rutgers and choose to spend my time going to games (home/away) & hard earned money for 10 season tickets to see a competitive product on the field. That's all I'm asking for. If he wants me to find another school, all I have to do is spent that same $$ and I could get to at least a few games a year and see a better product in Norman, OK.....with a much better QB.

Was it the right thing to do? Probably not. But booing a coach who gets paid and booing a kid who is just there to play are too totally different things. And please don't go with the they were booing the coach, not the kid, excuse. I was there and I heard what grown men (well at least physically) were shouting. Your ticket or your length of being a fan does not give you a degree of a**hole points, it really doesn't. The only thing good that came out of this is that, by your posts, it shows you can give it out, complaining on this board, but really can't take it. Maybe, I doubt it, it will make you think twice before you type some of the stupid crap that winds up on here. Not endorsing the action but loving that it got to some of the loud mouths!

Wow, finally some common sense. That's a leader. I said this yesterday, there are bigger things going on, so let's stop making a mountain out of a mole hill.

There are bigger things going on that we have absolutely no control over. This is a discussion board, and this issue happened and was polarizing .......and is now in the media. Stop trying to minimize this discussion - it is worthy of our thoughts & posts.

Yes, a few seconds of booing is such a big deal. Oh my goodness! Stop the presses, call President Obama. A college football player (or coach) got boo'ed!!!

You creating an over the top Histrionic type response/post does not change the discussion in any way. Not sure what you are having problems understanding. The situation was not just booing a player for a bad play - it was the injury/timing etc that makes it discussion worthy.
