Let's go METS 2016 thread ......Just get in and anything can happen!

Big day today with Giants and Cards getting ready to play 4 in SF.

WHY IS BRUCE PLAYING?
I know the answer to that one! BECAUSE SOMEBODY HAS TO! Let's assess the alternatives:
  • Alejandro deAza, whom everybody wanted tarred and feathered a little while ago.
  • Michael Conforto, equally cold and far less accomplished.
  • Brandon Nimmo, even less accomplished.
  • Kelly Johnson, a career backup who, like most career backups, has his weaknesses exposed over periods of extended playing time.
  • Ty Kelly, included here only for completeness.
Take your pick.

In what alternate universe is Jay Bruce an experiment? He is an accomplished major league hitter who is in a protracted slump. There is only one way for him to get out of it, and that is to play.

He's an average player who spent his career hitting in a bandbox. He just happened to have very good 1st half numbers this year on a horrible team.

He's hitting .192 as a Met and Collins bats him 5th in a pennant race. At least bat him 7th or 8th if you must use him. I believe he Struck out on 3 pitches with the bases loaded one out. Can't get out of a slump looking at strikes.

Reluctantly, I'll take DeAza, Conforto, or Nimmo over Bruce...and hope he keeps D'arnaud out for good too.

Perhaps in 2015, but you should check the 2016 won/loss records once in a while.
Yankees.....77-67 535
mets............77-68 .531
and the Yanks play a big boy schedule. They don't have the two worst teams in MLB next up on their schedule. And their remaining games are almost all vs. contenders. The teams left on the mets schedule are all losers.

Yankees now 77-68 .531 mets now 77-69 .527
The only problem for the Yanks in maintaining their status as New York's #1 MLB team is the schedule. They play 14 of their last 17 games vs. winning teams....contenders....some of the best teams in baseball.
The mets have 16 games left......ZERO vs. winning teams....teams playing for something.
mets fans....do the right thing. Send a Thank You note to the schedule-maker.

I'm a huge Yankee fan. But to post that the Yankees need to "maintain" their status as NYC #1 is a dumb concept. Both teams are marginal playoff teams. Nothing you can post, I can post, or a Met fan can post will change anything this year. Whether you're a Mets fan or Yankee fan can you just enjoy you're playoff run without knocking the other team??

Now you done it!!! You better watch or else hes going to go after you for posting about the Yankees on the Rutgers board. In your case, hes going to tell you to post on a Yankees board because who the hell are you to tell him that he dont he have the right to be a freaking c*** on a Mets thread on the Rutgers board?????

Funny thing is that I started a Yankee thread in March. A few days later when it was overwhelmed by Yankees haters, so I asked for it to be deleted. Yankee fans called me a pussy for bailing out, so I rescinded my request. I did. a week later the thread was deleted by a Met fan who is a moderator on this board. Only Met threads are allowed to go the entire season here

No he's special needs I believe.

You still don't understand. Oh well. I'll try again.
I have no problem with a mets fan creating a thread on the Rutgers football board about the mets. Or London Broil. Or a Jimmy Buffet concert. Or the best time to reseed your lawn.
My problem is with those who post silly nonsense about the mets and then expect that someone who is not a mets fan isn't gonna come along and post real stuff.
If you start a thread about London Broil on this board you're gonna get some posters here who don't like London Broil and will let you know about it in any thread about London Broil.
If you start a thread about Jimmy Buffet on this board you're gonna get some posters here who don't think much of Jimmy Buffet and will let you know about it in any thread here about Buffet.
The same is true of any thread about Tom Brady, A-Rod, Hope Solo, or just about any other topic.
Check them out some time.
Why you think a poster here shouldn't post in a mets thread if he doesn't like the mets...or at least doesn't like the nonsense that some of their fans post as reality....is kinda puzzling. Is it that mets fans are just so more sensitive than anybody else ? Is it just so much easier to hurt their feelings than Jimmy Buffet fans or Tom Brady fans or London Broil fans ?
What gives ?

He got Yankee fans telling him to STFU, LMAO!!!!

I've been dealing with Yankees fans like that since 1962 as well.
Listen, I've had my share of arguments with other Yankees fans over the years.
It's just that mets fans are special....in so many ways.

According to Adam Rubin, it's his non-pitching shoulder. Apparently he's had it before he came up to the Mets. That's why he won't swing at any pitches. He wasn't swinging at Vegas either.

Rubin reports that doctors will wait until after the season to determine whether surgery will be required.

You have been having arguments with Yankee fans, Mets fans all in the name of truth?? No I think it's because your needle is stuck and repeat the same $hit over and over again. When the Mets finish with a better record you'll just move the goal posts again, never admit your wrong. That's why your hated. Normal people admit when their wrong. Your not normal, but hey, you called all Mets fans, fence jumpers, Mexicans or something. Real class act, lol.

These injuries are royally getting on my nerves, starting with Wright who should have been traded after '06 playoff debacle IMHO.

Wow. You really ARE special..

Never saw this but s/he does have that vibe of being one of those hard core Trump Thumpers. That'd explain alot.

How are you able to be soooo consistently wrong ?
I'm a socialist....who can't possibly take seriously the intelligence of Trump supporters....or apparently most of the mets fans that have posted in this thread.
BTW, what the other dope is referencing is a post where I related a comment a friend of mine made about fans of the Mexican national soccer team. He said that they were unique in that they were a combination of a team that had accomplished so little over the years but whose fans acted like they had accomplished so much. I immediately recognized the similarity to mets fans.
How the hell the loon got "...you called all mets fans fence jumpers, Mexicans or something" is beyond me. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Spin it anyway you want Hillary, damage control. Oh, I guess I also misunderstood you admitting you are crying about the Mets schedule. You know, if it was reversed and all, lol. Horse's Ass and Mini Me.

That loss yesterday sucked. I'm so f'ing tired of Jay Bruce I don't give a chit if he's a 3 time all star and a proven hitter. he's proving that he SUCKS right now at the most important time of the season. I wish Bruce would just F off but unfortunately the Mets don't operate that way. Id go with Conforto, De aza, Nimmo in that order over Bruce.

Too bad the Mets are still "broke" (or cheap). I would try to sign Wilson Ramos in the offseason ASAP. Decent catcher, good CLUTCH hitter, Met Killer longer than Murphy has been.

If there was ever a time for the loser Wilpons to spend now would be it. The window isn't very big, maybe 2-3 years by the time all the pitchers are due to be paid $200 mill or all their arms fall off, whichever happens first.

Ramos would be a good move but there's a risk, considering this is the first time he's stayed healthy all season, in a contract season. Seen that before...

Cespy is priority #1 and i guarantee he's brought back- he's just too essential. 4 years $120 mill with option for 5th year @ $30 mill.

Ramos is had been better than d'Arnaud and R. Rivera so I would take that risk. Probably had a chance to do BOTH extend Cespedes and sign Ramos. However, Jay Bruce 2017 contract for $13M kills that.

Listening to the FAN yesterday, Francessa implied Jay Bruce isn't a big city type of guy, and likes playing in small cities. Don't know where he got that from, but I bet it's from one of the beat reporters that follows the team, say Eddie Coleman on the QT? Either way, you hold onto him as trade bait in the off season in a package deal. No way you cut him loose for nothing. Plenty of small time teams that would want a 30+ HR hitter. Cespy has to be resigned, imagine if the Bruce or Gomez trade went down last season instead? No Division Championship and no playoff run to the World Series, that's for sure.

Guess some people dont like Los Méts

Kbee, when you pass a 7-11 today, stop in and ask if their Selling pennants. You lost the pennant not by being sellers, but by going 7-11 against the NL teams. That is all.

Ive been saying that since the Minaya/Randolph days. Looks like were back to that. Hope they sign Ramos and extend Cespedes...

#WEPA!!!!

His contract is a team option for $12 mill. The mets have the option to buy him out for $1 mill which is about as cheap as it gets in baseball, and is becoming more and more likely every day that Bruce absolutely blows

DAMM... NVM. If Washington don't re up Ramos, they're bigger idiots than the Wilpons

Funny thing with the wright contract is you know there is no way Alderson wanted that deal. But fans would have gone ape sheet. Wilpon caved to pressure on that one.
