In a great game tonight Linden defeated Roselle Catholic 64-58. Tavon Jones had 20 for Linden, Khalief Crawford had 16, Marcellus Livingston had 13 and Joe Krempa scored 10. Naz Reid did quite well for RC. I think he had about 4 blocks, quite a few rebounds and I'm guessing about 15 points but I might be off. RC played both Naz Reid and the new 7'1" guy as twin towers for almost the entire second half. Kelly Whitney's son played quite well for RC and is only a soph. Linden got the #1 seed today in the Union County Tournament, The Patrick School got #2, Roselle Catholic got #3 and St. Mary of Elizabeth got #4. All 4 of these teams are rated in the Top 7 in the state rankings by the Ledger at #1, 2, 3 & 7. Linden is rated as #11 today in the nation by Max Preps and The Patrick School is #12.

I think Roselle Catholic plays Monteverde (FL) on Friday in a tournament, so no chance to dwell on this game at all........Linden's roster appears to be as underrated as anyone in the state.....Jones and Livingston are definite players that are not perfect fits for an elite program, but they are winning basketball players that win you games....I know Jones doesn't fit the profile of a shooting guard and plays like an attack Small Forward at 6'3" or so, but he's a jump shot away from being dangerously good on the college level......Livingston just knows how to play, can't see the majors missing on him like they did his older brother.....Livingston and Matt Farrell were the two huge rating system misses in the last 3 years of NJ kids in HS...

Linden is scheduled to play Montverde Friday night at Kean at 8:30PM. They will play Trenton Catholic Sunday at Roselle Catholic and are supposed to play Elizabeth tomorrow at LHS if weather permits. From what I understand Marcellus Livingston doesn't have any major offers yet. I know Tavon Jones has been offered by SHU as well as St. Joseph's of Philly.

You ain't kidding. Once ND offered Farrell he was gone, but Livingston was ours if EJ or anyone on our previous staff made any type of effort to recruit the kid.

knights1212 personally told EJ about him a few times, but EJ turned a deaf ear. Here are Livingston's stats this season. Pretty impressive, to say the least. Just look at that free-throw percentage...

Player....................GP MIN PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
Otis Livingston II... 23 35.0 15.2 2.7 3.1 1.3 0.0 1.8 .446 .897 .379

Linden winning is a product of coaching. Phil is the top public school coach in the state and probably number 2 overall.

GRF, I am not a subscriber so I don't think I can send you a PM. Thanks. It would be nice to connect in some way. I think Ridge will finish at #17 and out of the state tournament.

Very true. But at the same time Linden always has talent coming through the ranks. Been that way for decades. It starts with excellent in-town youth programs. I can only imagine what a coach like Colicchio could have done with a team like the 1978 Linden team.

That is so true. Howard started for 4 years at Villanova, Devero started at Seton Hall for a while, Peoples was outstanding as well and Gordon Austin I think set assist records at American. There were at least 4 D-1 kids on that team.

Calvin Duncan who later transferred to Oak Hill Academy before starring at Virginia Commonwealth was also on that team along with John Krotulis who played at St. Peter's.

RU for Jersey, That is correct. I think those two were underclassmen at the time. Duncan was really good. I think he went to VCU but I might be wrong. I was at the game in 78 when they lost in the state final to Camden by 3 points I believe. Still of Camden fouled out Howard, Peoples & Devero all in the last 4-5 minutes after LHS led almost the entire game. Still was like 6'10" and I think he started at defensive end for Kentucky in football. He was one tough guy.

Art Still did play basketball and football for Camden and later football for Kentucky. He graduated from Kentucky in 78, so you may be thinking of his brother, Dennis, who I think ended up at Kentucky. Camden rolled out some talent in those days: the Stills, Derrick Ramsey, Milt Wagner, Billy Thompson.

Troy Strafford from linden played football at BC I believe.

And of course Waliy Dixon aka the main event played basketball at Linden and RU.
