Mac McClung talks Rutgers Commitment

How tall is he ? Each report I read seems to shrink him. The first message said he was 6'4". Next I read he was only 6'3" Then, I saw he was 6'2". Now it's 6'1". Does anyone know how tall our next PG is ?

Think u might be thinking of Montez Mathis, McClung is 6'1". Mathis has been listed at 6'5" or 6'4".

MacClung has always been a little guy. Not Mack little, but a tad over 6'. I'm hoping he plays like a TJ McConnell with a bit more hops. I mean, he's a combo guard off the bench going forward (I'm guessing that Mathis starts with two of Kiss/Geo/Thiam next year).

Not bad. Hopefully a better stroke too.

Think Spud Webb.

lets hope it stops right there, no further shrinkage

Thanks. All of the highlights I see of him are a showcase of dunks. I'd love to see his court vision, & how he defends/rebounds.

He has good court vision and awareness. He will have to prove he can do it at this level, like all recruits. He is a tough hard nosed kid. I expect him to be the type of player that makes winning plays.

I for one can attest that McClung can shoot the ball very well....even if he did have a poor shooting outing in the month of July in the adidas gauntlet. I think alot of that was due to him maybe trying to hard to really make a push in recruiting instead of just letting the game come to him like he usually does. I only missed a couple of his games last year and have been watching him since his freshman season. His mid-range jumper last year was incredible and was his bread and butter along with taking the ball to the rack. And there was several games where you could tell he purposely chose to just focus on shooting around the perimeter. Where the competition isn't super tough in the 2A class until you make it into the playoffs, McClung has the privilege to work on his shots and his game and not have much pressure on him to just do whatever he has to do to win a game for his team.

Alot of the highlight videos made of Mac at GC are recorded by high school teenagers that hes friends with and they don't always compile the things we fans want to see that showcases his PG abilities such as court awareness, shooting stroke, shot selection, how he handles full court pressure, and his defense. They are all about the wow factor as most teenagers are and live to record his high flying dunks which are fun to watch.

I've seen lots of great shooters in my time at the high school level at the Arbys classic in Bristol, TN and watched many of them go on to play at Duke, UNC, Kansas, etc. McClung is a solid shooter and has a great stroke. He wont ever be a Reddick from the perimeter but he is very solid and he will continue to get better because that's just what he does.....hes a grinder in the gym. His court awareness/vision is great and will only get better. McClung has areas he needs to work on and the biggest is defense in my opinion....but he will be a major contributor. I talked to his high school coach the other day and he told me that he was really gonna focus on defense with Mac this year and really try to get him on another level. GC has more depth this year so McClung won't have to play so many minutes which will allow him to play on both sides with more energy instead of just using him for an offensive explosion.
