I think that has to be the story of next week. Maryland is good but not as tough defensively as PSU. Gavin needs to give us 20+ points to make a case not to bring in a QB who is sold on a legit chance to become the immediate starter - maybe more. It stinks. Not going to be a great message for future QB recruit studs if he doesn’t work out. But we can’t afford to put everything into a guy who is as inaccurate to this point as Wimsatt has been without seeing sizable growth next week.

Only caveat and some won’t like it either - somehow Vedral gets approved for an injury redshirt. With a year to rehab, perhaps last year’s version of Noah could be an insurance policy. No idea if that’s even in the running though.

Are Simon (2020) and Wimsatt (2021) really the only QBs on the team?
Nobody even redshirting that could get in for a couple series.

I know Wimsatt screwed things up by coming here a year early (was supposed to be class of 2022 and a freshman this year).

It's stupid to think that way. You bring in the best QB you can get regardless of how he plays. We had multiple QB injuries this season, including Wimsatt. If he gets ruffled by another QB in the room he doesn't deserve to be a starter.

I wonder who Idea who it was to enroll early. If it was his I could see him entering the transfer portal because it appears that he and his family have an inflated opinion on his talent. I could see them un happy with his progress and moving on. I know his relationship with Gleason was a big reason he came and he be starting over again with a new OC anyways.

You need to bring in two QB’s period. One serviceable transfer ( if possible) and one High School prospect. You don’t give up on a 19 year old ( still not 100 %) who does have the physical intangibles. This young player has now been in 5 games in the B1G . Posters here on this board say we are poorly coached , under sized, lack overall ability and Gavin is not what he was cranked up to be. The kid lacks nothing ( including accuracy and touch) that can not be rectified. Get him an OC / QB like what Fridge did with Nova and some real pieces and then after another year comeback and we can discuss this player. To be critical of him is sending a very bad message to others. Is that what the goal is?

Evan Simon knew (last year prior to Gavin coming into the program ) he was going to have to be lights out in order to be the guy in charge of the offense. Here again it was not his fault and if he leaves I don’t expect him to be playing in the B1G .

I have no inside info but I’d be shocked if Simon is here next year. He sees the writing on the wall. And in fairness to him he might believe he was given a raw deal. Bothe sides will be happy to move on
Raw deal??

Gavin is still a freshman this year

Two parts to that. He had his chance. But he had his chance behind this OL. That's the raw deal.

The things that are "wrong with" Simon can be more easily rectified with a good QB coach. Or, another way of putting it is that those things can be corrected a LOT more quickly than all of the things I see wrong in Wimsatt's performance.

I think, in an ideal world, Schiano (or Gleeson and Schiano) might have planned Vedral to be the sole starter this year with some small mop-up duty for both Simon and Wimsatt to get them in-game experience. But, obviously - Vedral's injury foiled those plans. Working with Simon first, he could eventually be the starter in 2023 because he could be coached up (and corrected) more easily, with Wimsatt acting as his back-up. Then - perhaps in 2024, leave that as an open competition. In that time, A LOT of coaching would be focused on educating and coaching up Wimsatt to hopefully take-over in that (RS?) Junior year. I cannot imagine anyone would've seen Wimsatt's raw talent against HS competition and imagined that with that alone he could start for a B1G school at 18 or 19 years of age.
