Mathis NOT committing tomorrow

Just saw that. He wants to sit down with his family to discuss his college decision.
I guess he hasn't had the time to do that up until now.

Regardless of whether or not it helps anyone I think it’s a good move...it would be nice to see more players do this. Take the move seriously and when you commit somewhere, stick to it.

Hopefully rethinking things after the McClung commit....feels like a good thing for us.

Reading the tea leaves here is wayyyyyyy beyond my skill set... but wonder ...

More time to ponder the incredible attractiveness of having a high caliber hard working point guard lined up to feed the shooting guard?

Maybe the other "pleasing addition" that has been said to be made known to all in the near future will further validate the view that RU is heading skyward?

Maybe he & his Family can discuss how much they - and many members of the extended family - and friends and neighbors want to see as many of his games as possible ... and how remarkably straightforward the trip to Rutgers would be - a manageable drive - a reasonable train ride ?

Maybe He & his family want to make another campus visit?

Who knows .... but it is an absolute certainty that this program is on the ascension - Rutgers Basketball Players will be cutting down nets - and the prospects who have the vision, courage and determination will be the ones doing it!

I think this is a good sign for us. I think it is wonderful that he will meet again with his family. Montez seems like a very level headed kid who takes everything seriously.

No reason to rush, these are only verbal commitments remember, until a NLI is signed in the fall, November I believe, the verbal doesn't hold a lot of weight, kids flip all the time

Lol! He sat around and played AAU ball that's all! Now it's time to talk to mom and pops!

I still think this is good to make certain he is making the correct decision. It is a major decision in a young man's life. Perhaps the U Conn staff was putting a lot of pressure on him to commit as they had a poor season last year and they lost several guys to transfer at the end of last season. They might be feeling a little pressure and tried to squeeze him. This is just a thought. If that is the case let him share opinions with his parents. He might just realize how good our staff is and has his best interests in him as a person. I'm sure his mom and dad would like to see Montez play in a lot of games and RU is only about 3 hours from Baltimore.

Unless you are a one and done recruit I doubt any recruit can be certain he made the right decision. There are too many factors involved such as location, academics, playing time ,relationships with coaching staffs, league competition and the importance in playing in the NCAA Tournament.

I thought all signs were pointing to him committing but now people are saying that this is good for us. Confused?

when he announced his commitment date, he probably thought he was going to go with Uconn..... the last couple of days before that, RU made up a lot of ground, and it became a 50/50 choice, or so it seems..... the common thought here is that he slightly favors Uconn, but the family likes RU

so, he did not announce for Uconn as he planned..... this is the good news..... we have not won the battle in total, that might have been too much to ask at this point.

I just hope he signs in November. My biggest fear (besides signing with UConn) is he drags it out, has a monster senior season and one of the blue bloods (i.e, Duke, UNC, Kansas) swoops in late and inks him in April. From all indications, though, it doesn't appear that will happen.

If he were a heavy UCONN lean, I'd say this is good for Rutgers. Otherwise, I would be nervous

Not that it means anything but crystal ball has Rutgers 70% to 30% UConn now.

Simple

If he was going to pick Uconn, it is good for us.
If he was going to pick RU, it is bad for us.

BK said it is good news, so I am going with the former.

I like the delay.....get the AAU dudes ( and their Agenda) out of room and make it a Family Decision, which is the way it should be.......Montez, Mom and Dad. No one else.

This guy thinks the decision will be on Saturday.

i would say this crushes UCONN odds.

and to add....what really matters is when they sign.

You don't count your chickens until the pen meets the paper. You don't evaluate your chicken until you see them on the floor with their uniform on. You really don't know what you have until the middle of the sophomore year....(think Thaim, Eugene, etc.)

Fool's rush in where wise men fear to tread comes to mind after reading your message.
My opinion about Montez Mathis not committing when planned:
He's wise taking more time to decide where he plans to spend possibly his next 4-5 years, it's his future that's on the line which also makes it something worth talking to his parents about.

As for your AAU crack , talking to other HS players on that circuit might have helped him learn about some schools he is thinking about attending by talking to other kids about what they think of those schools..

It's easy to pick UCONN...

It's hard to pick Rutgers

If the kid needs some more time to make the tough choice, I can wait

Can hope that further strengthening the the point guard spot (McClung ) makes Rutgers even more attractive to any shooting guard

and if a really nice late completion of the 2017 puzzle can be made that has favorable impact on 2018 /2019/ 2020.... and...? ... all increases the gravitational pull of RU

A possible concern with a late November decision for another school would be filling the need at the shooting guard position with a go to scorer similar to Mathis.

It sounds like his decision will stick , whatever it is. That alone will be refreshing. $$$$

I think this he meant that Montez was EXPECTED to announce
(friday) and has postponed..... not expect to commit

Ok I think it's bad for us because I think UConn made him reconsider his announcement to us. Now it gives them more time to persuade other top recruits and if one commits they may end up "flipping him".
