Thought his age would be an issue for some programs. Front runner for ISU, meeting with Mizzou tomorrow, and Toledo making a counter offer.

I thought Iowa State was a done deal? No way he stays at Toledo. Maybe waits for a Mizzou offer, but I think Rhule is gonna land at Mizzou.

He met with Mizzou today and tomorrow Mizzou meets with Rhule. To me, Campbell is crazy to take that job

If Mizzou hires him, will he have to acknowledge his white privilege?

Cool. By the time Rutgers figures out if they want to make a move, half our prime candidates will be off the board.

Such as? Right now one is off the board. People said Fleck was a lock for Illinois and they didn't even call him. We can't drag our feet but if we make a change in the next 48 hrs we are fine. Caveat is how we handle an AD change and that timeline.

Come on. You both know we're talking to agents & others quietly, just like 2013, but even quieter as nothing has leaked yet LOL. I don't even think Campbell was on Julie's list. He should be. Firing Flood now or 12/6 has no bearing on a new hire. If we aren't willing to pay, then we can talk all we want but we can't expect to hire a good replacement like Herman, Fuente, Babers or Campbell with a gun, ski mask & lack of commitment to winning.

Yes we have spoken to multiple candidates but a hire needs to be made prior to the weekend of dec 11 for official visits.

How does that happen if JH goes as well, unless you're saying the "old guard" is coming back which I really hope isn't going to happen.

Not sure exactly how it happens but we have some scenarios.
Been told replacement has been identified and ready to go. If so, they hopefully have targets in mind.
Old guard is a legit possibility.
50 other scenarios that we probably don't know about.

I saw that. I was thinking if it might be some old names that were thrown around the last time.

Thomas Boeh the Fresno State AD who was the supposed front runner last time but withdrew his name. I looked him up and he's bee reassigned in the Fresno administration, a polarizing figure according to the article. Sound familiar, lol.

Randy Spetman ex FSU AD who also was rumored to be tied to the job but denied any interest. I don't know what he's up to lately.

I prefer an AD change not happen but if it does, please fresh new blood from the outside enough from our dismal past.

Anyone know how many days the day has to be posted for before a hire can officially be made?

It seems like taking the Iowa State job is a really hard place to win, but they are probably doubling his salary. He has to think of his family.

Old guard as the new AD or just an interim to get us through a HC search? Who was it Dean Kirschner last time? I agree the AD situation has turned into an undesirable wild card in the search for a new HC. I see only downside for this search if we need to hire a new AD as well.

I thought the idea of the Navy coach running the triple option might be the best solution for a school like Iowa State. Nevertheless they have had some success in the not too distant past since we played them in the Pinstripe a few years ago. Missouri's a better job but who know if that is really on the table. If Missouri takes Rhule, I wonder what the reaction will be by many here who think he is a one year wonder with a senior dominated team he inherited from Addazio.

Well it wouldn't change anything for me if Mizzou hires him. I don't say one year wonder I say not enough beef to say I want him, too short term success and his time as OC wasn't good either and I've given all the stats here before. I need to see some sort of consistency as HC or coordinator to say okay this guy might have a chance when he takes the step up. I don't see that with Rhule, not yet. The other thing is getting hired isn't the justification that someone is good. What he does after he gets hired justifies the hire but you can't know that for some years after. Just like the draft, same thing.

Herman was a guy I've mentioned here for a few years and I've liked him for some time. Houston hiring him didn't mean anything. Even this really good year he's had doesn't mean a ton yet because it's short term. When he does take the step up and does well that's when you know okay your assessment was right. I mean look at Chris Petersen from Boise and at Washington. Who wouldn't have wanted him with all his success there and certainly not short term success at Boise by any means. It's only 2 years but so far 2 under .500 conference records and about .500 overall. Still early in his tenure so I won't say anything much but I bet many thought he'd come in and win pretty quickly. So far he's done just about what Sarkisian before him did but again still early.

As to ISU yup it's a tough job, tougher than ours. But that's what I've been saying when people keep talking down our job. There are only so many P5 jobs and they don't grow on trees. Most of them will attract many, maybe not all, solid mid major coaches and P5 coordinators.
