Nearly 4,000 students, faculty and staff attended an anti-war rally at Rutgers University on May 4, 1970 and voted for a strike opposing the Cambodian Campaign initiated by Richard Nixon in April. This postponed the remaining academic work of the spring semester. This protest coincided with protests at universities across the United States, including the infamous rally at Kent State University in Ohio, where four students were killed and nine were wounded.
