After having an event cancelled due to Hurricane Milton, the team returns for their final tourney of the Fall season at The Ocean Golf Club. The 12 team field is headlined by 2 Top 50 teams in #40 College of Charleston and #48 Houston. Also participating is the #4 ranked D3 team, Emory University. Host #81 WVU is the ony other squad ranked in the Top 100. B1G mate #145 Maryland is also entered.

Rutgers comes in ranked #116. Although initial Rankings were not released till last week, working back I found that RU was ranked #86 after their 1st tourney, #95 after the 2nd, #114 after the 3rd and dropped 2 more spots without playing since. With RU the 4th highest ranked team and a lack of golf powerhouses, it's a chance to reverse the trend with a really good finish. This is not an overly strong field.

Rutgers will go with the same lineup as before in Sr Weston Jones, Grad Noah Kumar, Soph Derek Gutierrez, and 2 frosh, Argyle Downes and Bennett Espenshade. Soph Andrew Reyes is entered as an individual.

In the 1st Round shotgun start, RU will be paired with Maryland and Northern Illinois.

After today's first round, RU finds itself tied for 7th with UC-San Diego after a +1, 289, putting themselves well behind the leaders;

There was a change as some time after the lineup was posted Wednesday and the start, Andrew Reyes replaced Derek Gutierrez for RU.

Rutgers was led by Weston Jones' 1 Under 71 good for a tie for 20th. Andrew Reyes shot Even Par 72, with Argyle Downes and Bennett Espenshade, with an eagle 3 on the Par 5 16th, shooting 1 Over 73's. Noah Kumar had an up and down round with 9 Pars, 5 Birdies, 1 Bogey, and 3 Doubles for a 2 Over 74.

The College of Charleston leads at 17 Under, followed by Houston at 16 Under, Maryland at 14 Under, with Ball State and Northern Illinois at 8 Under.

Logan Paczewski who left RU for Ball State after last season, shot a 77 as an individual.

It appears RU will be paired with Emory and UC-San Diego tomorrow.

Rutgers played better today with a 5 Under, 283 but gave up a number of strokes late which dropped them to 8th at -4. Noah Kumar shot a 3 Under 69 with 5 Birdies and a Double Bogey to lead the team. He is tied for 28th with Argyle Downes who shot a 2 Under 70, Bennett Espenshade had a 1 Under 71. He is tied for 34th with Weston Jones who shot 73. Andrew Reyes shot 75 and stands in 49th.

Houston leads at -28, 1 stroke ahead of The College of Charleston. They are followed by Ball State -22, Maryland -17, and Northern Illinois -14.

Charleston's Kieron Van Wyk is the individual leader at -14. He is followed by Houston's Hudson Weibel 1 stroke behind. Eastern Michigan's Tim Chan is 2 back with Ball State's Carter Smith 3 back.

Rutgers will be paired with WVU and George Mason in tomorrow's final round. It will also be the final round of the Fall Season. The team will be off until February when they make a return trip to Puerto Rico for the Palmas del Mar Collegiate.

In today's final round, Rutgers shot a 1 Under 287 thanks mostly to Noah Kumar's 3 Under 69 which included 6 Birdies and 3 Bogeys. He ended the event T20th with a 3 Round total of -4 (74-69-69). Bennett Espenshade (32nd) shot Even Par and finished Even for the tourney. Andrew Reyes (43rd) also shot Even Par and Finished +3. Argyle Downes (35th) shot +2 and finished +1. Weston Jones (38th) also shot +2 and and finished +2.

All in all, RU finished 8th at -5 in an event they came in as the 4th highest ranked team. It was a tale of three score groupings. Charleston won with a final total of -50. Houston was 2nd at -40 followed by Ball State at -28, Maryland was -22, West Virginia -17 and Northern Illinois -14. The other 6 teams went from -8 to +11. Maryland had been the lowest ranked team in the B1G for a number of years, some years by a lot but played well this time out.

Charleston's Kieron van Dyk (-21) won the individual title over. Houston's Hudson Weibel who was 2nd (-16) with EMU's Tim Chan 3rd with a total of -14.

The team is off until February. Hopefully the Spring will bring some better results to the mostly young group of golfers.
