Go ahead, flame away. Green grass and blue skies ahead.
Minnesota:
W Oregon State 30-23 (Oregon State is 2-4)
W Indiana State 58-28 (Howard level of competition)
W Colorado State 31-24 (New Mexico level of competition, but worse 3-4)
L Penn State 29-26 (A PSU team that lost to Pitt and struggled with Temple who lost to Army)
L Iowa 14-7. (Sound Familiar? Minn has 268 yards of offense compared to our 383)
W Maryland 31-10 (Maryland looks very suspect all of the sudden)

Minnesota's Mitch Leidner was out with a concussion yesterday. Conor Rhoda was 7/15 for 82 yards. They beat Maryland on their running game.

Tell me how wrong I am and why we are "certain" to lose.

They looked bad against Iowa which is the only thing that gives me hope. PSU is looking good recently so don't know why that loss would make you feel good we would beat them, I think we would lose to state penn worse than we did last year if we played them now

Of course, nothing is certain. Comparing scores has limited usefulness. If we stick with Gio, we have a shot. Could be a big confidence builder if the offense sees some hope and production. Could brighten the defense's outlook, as well.

Minnesota has shown a pretty consistent offense while Rutgers has scored 2 touchdowns in 16 quarters of B1G competition. They went on the road and had a decisive victory over Maryland while Rutgers lost to Illinois at home.Minnesota played a very competitive game against Penn State and the odds makers will make PSU at least a 3 touchdown favorite over Rutgers. Finally,Rutgers has yet to play a competitive game on the road in front of a hostile crowd. The psyche of Minnesota is high and Rutgers is low. They will be at least a 13 point favorite.

As much as I want to join the OP, yesterday's game really shook me to the core. Yes, Laviano had his usual mediocre game, but he was only responsible for one fumble. With the exception of our one TD drive, we seemed determined to take ourselves out of every other opportunity we had to score. Hell, Illinois was a penalty machine and they still whipped us.

Kind of hard to judge PSU right now. Why are they looking good recently?
W Kent State 33-13
L Pitt 42-39
W Temple 34-27
L Michigan 49-10
W Minn 29-26 OT
W Maryland 38-14 (still think maryland is bad)

I just fell into the transitive win trap I hate so much. But there is nothing on PSU's record to indicate they are world beaters. Not saying we can or will beat them--yet.

I am not going to keep apologizing for not being an eeyeore. Yeah, it sucks we lost yesterday. We have 5 more games.

FWIW, we (Maryland) aren't very good. Minnesota is not going to blow you away w flashiness or athleticism, but they're solid all the way around if Leidner is healthy.

We lost by 17 points at home to Illinois, thought by most to be the worst team in BIG. Yes, we had 5 turnovers but they played their backup QB who could hardly throw. Hard to be optimistic. If Gio grows we may steal a game coming in, but I doubt MN will be that game.

PSU 38-Maryland 14, Maryland 55-Purdue 7, Purdue 34-Illinois 31, Illinois 24-Rutgers 7...Minny is a decent team, pretty solid defense and good running game, Rutgers has a lot of problems with teams with good running games and Minny won't commit the penalties that Illinois did, Rutgers hope is that Leidner doesn't play again and the backup has a down game and Rutgers doesn't have the turnovers it did...Rutgers can win this game, but the comparison to PSU isn't a good one based on who who beat

RU was just a 6 point underdog to Illinois at home. This line will be at least 2 touchdowns.

But you have to do some "recalculating" based on the new data: the actual RU - Illini game performance. RU showed progress, although also many turnovers that led to defeat. Will await the Vegas line.

I don't mean to scrap on your team, but your schedule was ridiculously easy. Looking forward to a close game against you guys. How bad were Pigrome's two picks yesterday?

guess we gave up on the" Illini are beatable" war chant(with a backup QB and a record of no wins vrs Div1 schools),so now we move onto Minnesota is beatable week? LOL.

Yeah, I agree with what you said. Rutgers will have to come out with an A game on offense (something we have not seen since New Mexico). Like what I saw with Gio yesterday, despite the INT. Everything I said above is off if CL is our starter.

Yes, Minnesota is beatable - just not by the team that's coming in on Saturday.

Listen, I'd love to say that we're finally gonna put something together and put up a good showing, however, there is absolutely nothing that I've seen through 7 games that leaves me with any hope of that happening. I sure hope I'm eating a lot of crow come Sunday though.

RURod...Illinois thought by many to be the worst team in the B1G? No one ever thought they were any worse than the second worst.

Hard to win when you put the ball on the ground 4 times, we're usually pretty good protecting the ball. The int was off of a deflection. Hold onto the ball, we have a good chance to win

beatable yes but Minn has played very well in spurts, we need to get them when they are not in sync. They are more physical than us, are more disciplined, and think they have better line play. I don't think we win this game but am hoping otherwise

Beatable, of course, but Rutgers will need them to help, turnovers, dropped passes, blown coverages, and penalties would go a long way to helping Rutgers be competitive in this game.

+1

We heard a lot of "They lost to PURDUE" before playing Illinois. I don't want to hear it.

I always have some optimism before a game, even before games I know we're all but doomed in. But stop digging around for shreds of hope. Nothing much matters before signing day.

Let's not forget the result when these two schools met in March:

Beatable by a rutgers team from a few years ago, probably not the one taking the field next weekend. Some of you just can't accept how degraded our talent is and keep thinking we have a roster like we did during schiano's tenure.

it never fails the board ignores what we have seen from both teams and projects wins based on fantasy

Here's the thing: they ARE "beatable" in respect to the majority of our schedule. They DO have weaknesses. Now...does that mean we WILL beat them? Probably not, however, it IS game week so WTF else are we going to talk about? Chili?

Mediocre game ? What frick'n QB have you been watching ?
A mediocre QB who have us at 4-3.

That fumble was huge. If we score there it is a different game

I won't flame. But if people say this, I just don't want to see posts about how bare the cupboard is after we lose.

That being said I think we lose. Unless Gio really helps us turn the corner, I don't see another win.

Why? It's a fact.

I'm not saying it isnt. I'm saying either it is and we are the underdog and should lose to every B1G team hands down, or it isnt, and we could win but don't. I am of the opinion that we have the horses that would out us getting smacked around by Washington, OSU, and UM. But that we have the horses to compete w teams like ill and lost due to poor execution, coaching, personnel management, and play selection. I expect a combination of all the above issues plus lack of talent to render us winless the rest of the way. That's my .02 I was simply pointing out that some don't seem to acknowledge we have more issues than just lack of talent, so if we operate on the premise that MN is beatable, lets have an honest discussion about the reasons if we lose.

All that said, I think the staff can right this ship in a few years, but it should start with seeing game day improvement from here on out. Esp if we put another QB in.
