Minnesota is beatable

I'm not saying it isnt. I'm saying either it is and we are the underdog and should lose to every B1G team hands down, or it isnt, and we could win but don't. I am of the opinion that we have the horses that would out us getting smacked around by Washington, OSU, and UM. But that we have the horses to compete w teams like ill and lost due to poor execution, coaching, personnel management, and play selection. I expect a combination of all the above issues plus lack of talent to render us winless the rest of the way. That's my .02 I was simply pointing out that some don't seem to acknowledge we have more issues than just lack of talent, so if we operate on the premise that MN is beatable, lets have an honest discussion about the reasons if we lose.

All that said, I think the staff can right this ship in a few years, but it should start with seeing game day improvement from here on out. Esp if we put another QB in.

Iowa - execution KILLED us. Laviano left 3 TD's on the field
Illinois - TO's KILLED us

Neither were about coaching IMHO. COULD it have been better? COULD we have done some things differently? Sure. But even NFL coaches have bad days, or bad starts to their career, without talent. Even WITH those 2 games as "W's" we would have gotten beat badly by Washington and slaughtered by OSU and Michigan. The cupboard is "bare" regardless. When you lose 1 guy and it nearly shuts down your O and ST's, well, that's really all anybody needs to know. The discussion kinda ends right there, right?

Penn State's last two wins have been good wins IMO. They beat a MN team who was probably their equal. I thought MD sucked but we shellacked them.

Most of our games the rest of the way should be pick-ems so it will be interesting to see how we finish. With McSorley running the ball, I think we are improving.

Agree that McSorley is improving. What's your prediction for the tOSU game for a score? Any chance of you guys winning?

But you have to do some "recalculating" based on the new data: the actual RU - Illini game performance. RU showed progress, although also many turnovers that led to defeat. Will await the Vegas line.

RU just lost to the second worst team in the BIG by 17 at home. Not to mention Illinois used their backup QB who could barely lift his shoulder in the second half. No one is viewing this game as progress. RU will be at least 2 touchdown underdogs.

I'm going with Minni to be a 13 maybe 14 point favorite in this one. I think our Defense will play well , but of coarse, where is the scoring coming from. You always have a shot at winning when you walk out on the field. That's what the game's all about, but I will not predict a win this week. If Gio starts, we a better chance.

i do agree with you, but I also think coachingbhas been questionable and could have helped win the two winnable games. How about the 4th down play calls and decisions? Or the fact Allen was the backup rather than Gio? Or the Oden plays in the red zone, the absolute lack of any change-up on offense or play calling, and the option out if the gun on 4th and short? I agree we lack talent but acting as if coaching had zero to do with this is not being real.

I don't mean to scrap on your team, but your schedule was ridiculously easy. Looking forward to a close game against you guys. How bad were Pigrome's two picks yesterday?

One of the two were bad, the other was tipped. He's just playing way too fast right now and it's clear he isn't ready. He's incredibly dynamic when he tucks it and takes off, but his reads were poor and his deep ball had 10 extra yards on it each time. I have to think that Hills will be back as the starter once fully healthy. He gives us the best chance to win right now.

Is the mentality any better on the pay board? What a bunch of

I have no idea the score. For some reason, we generally play pretty well against OSU and it is a White Out at home. Our defense isn't good enough to beat them IMO and Urbs will make adjustments to account for our new offensive wrinkles so it will probably be a long night for PSU.

TBH, I don't care about beating OSU right now. I do care about winning the games left that will be a toss up.

I don't think anyone on the bwi pay board expects PSU to win but...those of us that have tickets are still looking forward to a raucous environment with the white out and hoping that this offense can put up
More points than against michigan, with all of our injuries to starting line backers we just don't have the defensive horses to stop JT Barrett from running all over the place. My prediction is 38-17 OSU but i do think it could be a one score game at halftime

I'll be there, so we're gonna win...... End of story.

This is almost a dumb question, but how quickly does your raucous crowd get taken out of the game? When it's 14-0, 21-0, or do you guys stay loud despite the score?

Honestly, this team has yet to put together a complete game, imo.

There are flashes here and there, and points where I can see Ash/Mehringer's vision... and then it collapses for several plays/series, and we're in a big hole. A lot of that is on personnel, and some I'm sure is just on familiarity/comfort with the new ways we're trying to play offense/defense.

We're also banged up right now, after 7 consecutive weeks without a bye, 3 of which were against teams in the Top 5. Our LBs were a major concern coming into the season... and we've lost Jones and Clayton, and the other four are banged up and have been limited in practice. That's not going to suddenly solve itself before Minnesota, though the bye week should help before Indiana to get people a little healthier.

That said, I don't think a win at Minnesota is impossible... just highly unlikely. This team hasn't learned how to win yet. They haven't learned how to be consistent and play a full 40 minutes. I can see glimpses of it... but I just don't think it's all going to come together this week.

We'll have a tough time stopping their running attack. Smith and Brooks are really good and was the focus on their win at College Park. Stopping Minny run game is the key and not sure we have the horses to do that, not to mention getting the Rutgers offense on track is a must.

Our run defense was awful against tOSU (we gave up 410 vs. their average of 300) and Michigan (we gave up 481 vs. their average of 255), decent against New Mexico (we gave up 293 vs. their average of 357-they are 2nd in nation in rushing yards) and pretty good against Iowa (we gave up 193 versus their average of 180). Looking at the stat line for Maryland v. Minnesota, they gave up 229 yards rushing, which is not terrible (Minnesota average 207 per game), but Maryland had 4 turnovers.

If we can have an Iowa-type game with no turnovers, we have a chance.

Not a dumb question, really depends on the weather...the white out is more of an in-game party for the students, as long as we score once in a while the crowd stays in it...the students generally don't leave in mass exodus, win or lose the students sing the alma mater after the game with the players...we know it's an uphill battle this year...even if it's 28-0 at the half the crowd will
Still get loud on defense and the party in the student section will continue...unless it's miserable cold rain.

Had them as a win before the season started. Not so much now after seeing our recent play. Odds are we don't win another game. Hope I'm wrong.

Your fans were impressive in the one game I watched this year. Think it was Temple, and t was pouring rain--the place was rocking until the end. But that was a close game.

The hype about PSU's student section, and the atmosphere at night games - especially during the WhiteOut against big opponents - is warranted. It's legitimately among the best environments in college football.

Will that be enough to overcome OSU on Saturday? Almost assuredly it will not. A worse PSU team should have beat the Buckeyes in 2014 in a similar environment, so I won't use the word "impossible," but the chances of a PSU win are very, very low.

I was at this game two years ago. In the three quarters when you guys had negative rushing yards I never heard so many people so quiet. Except when they booed your punter a few times. That was shen your D was sick though and it ended up being a loud fun ending.

Pigrome will be fine in future, but there is a reason he wasn't the starter. Hills is better.

New Mexico and Iowa were played with Quanzell Lambert and Greg Jones in the starting lineup.

At the LB position (in addition to Jones being out for the season), Morris, Roberts, and Margolis were all limited in practice due to injury last week, and Clayton left the team before the NM game. What was a thin LB corps that saw all three starters depart after last season has become even more fragile. That's definitely going to impact our ability to hold Minnesota's run game in check.

Hampton and Hester have also been limited due to injury at the safety position.

Have to think that containing Minnesota's running game is going to be a challenge.

Very good points.

If Rutgers can fix the QB, WR and OL and stop the turnovers, then sure we can beat them.

But that is a big IF.

Yep I was there...this will be the first game that the students pack in tho, by all accounts they've been somewhat disappointing this year, only about 15k of the 20k allotment looks like most games...even though they sold out in minutes...the upper corners have been noticeably light...actually it's the General fans in the lower bowl area that have been the most passionate and full

Sounds like we are having a lovefest with PSU fans. But, I am cheering for tOSU. And I hope they kick the crap out of Michigan.

Not to flame BUT...note the difference...the stadium was still packed to the end...no one left when all seemed lost...our students don't bail at halftime and 80% of the stadium is full before kickoff...at times, sure the crowd gets taken out of it, happens everywhere...but, there is still a crowd there at the end when the game is still in the balance...Rutgers needs more passionate fans and students that stick around to the end, players may understandably quit when they see a mass exodus of fans, especially their fellow students

The passionate hatred is still there...just nice to be able to have a civilized conversation with the enemy...just realize, while it's NOT a rivalry for most PSU fans, there are enough of us that grew up in and came back to live in NJ and for us it's a building rivalry at least...I enjoy the trash talk with my many MANY Rutgers alum friends...

I had an interesting encounter with a PSU fan--I am a volunteer firefighter. We were called to someone's home for an emergency. We were going about our work, and I noticed the homeowner had a PSU shirt on. She asked me a question about the issue we were trying to work on, and I answered it, and said I was a RU fan. Her response--we are going to kill you guys this year! I tried to convince the officer in charge that we needed to tear open a few walls to investigate further, but I was denied. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: But when I got her response, I was thinking --WTF, I am here helping her, and this is what I get? LOL.

well that game was never totally out of hand because JT was hurt and Urban refused to play 12 Gauge. As a person who had season tickets to PSU for 3 years I don't totally agree with your assessment. I've see late arriving crowds, early leaving crowds, and students bail on the team. Of course you fans are more passionate, they were willing to defend a pedophile enabler. If you can see past that you can deal with a crappy O line. last season before ARMY game

Minnesota is beatable. That doesn't mean RU will beat them. The back-to-back thrashing at the hands of Ohio State and Michigan appears to have taken a bit of a toll on the team. Maybe I'm viewing the world through scarlet glasses, but had the schedule been Iowa - Illinois - Michigan - Ohio State, RU may have beaten Illinois. The opportunities were there after overcoming the disastrous muff on the RU 11. Better execution and RU has a 14-0 lead instead of losing a fumble at the Illinois 9 and turning the ball over on downs at the Illini 25. Losing by 17 with a -4 turnover ratio typically indicates you played well enough to win if you don't turn the ball over. RU was -1 vs Iowa, even vs Michigan, +1 vs Ohio State, and -4 vs Illinois.

here we are having fun dialogue and you have to go ahead and make a bunch of troll like comments...not surprising though
you are having a fun dialogue calling out our fans. Calling them out for something you SAID your fans don't do. I provide some actually proof and you get defensive. Talk about not surprising.
