Monangai scored on that play right?

I thought so, don’t think his body hit before the ball was over. I don’t know why that couldn’t be reviewed.

Could schiano have challenged that call?
No challenges in college. But a timeout might have been prudent to lay into the ref until someone listens to your case. The guy's upstairs should have relayed that info to him.

These B1G refs and whole system just sucks. Can't count the number of times they come from 7 yards back to award the first down. USC just got stopped on 3rd and ,2 where replay showed players knee was down short but they gave them 1st and goal and a TD. 4 point award. Easy review they didn't bother to do in a big moment.

From the ap article

Monangai appeared to score but was marked short of the goal line with no challenge from Schiano. He said he didn't want to use a timeout to challenge the mark because it was reviewed at the replay center in Chicago and he was told it would stand.

Then they need to move the replay center out of Chicago because it's obvious they're completely incompetent at their job.

Each team gets a challenge in CFB as long as you have a timeout to burn. Greg dropped the ball on that one.

That's right my bad, you can call a timeout and request a review. If it is granted you don't lose the timeout, if they refuse you lose it.

I thought the one view showed his knee possibly bouncing off the turf short, but we never had enough time to get a full slate of replays.

Schiano has no problem taking a timeout fresh out of halftime on a meaningless play. But doesn’t want to use one on a scoring play?

Ridiculous!

Here it is, and actually queued up at 8:08...

And that looked like a TD to me. Hometown call. Fk Nebraska.
On the interception play before that I cheered a little too loudly. I was getting along well with the Nebraska fans around me, except for the biggest douchebag Nebraska fan in the stadium and his two adult sons. One of the kids turned around and gave me a long dirty stare. I made a comment to the Nebraska fan next to me, and the Dad got up in my face. I told him we could discuss the matter with security and I was free to cheer when Rutgers makes a play. Told him to tell his kid to learn to deal with it when an opposing fan celebratea a good play. He never turned around the rest of the game.

I don't get Greg's defense. He asked the ref and they said he was short? I get that - but they got the call wrong?

Every play is reviewed and if it’s not questionable they don’t buzz down to the refs. So he said the ref told him the play was reviewed already and they won’t change it so he said I’m not wasting a timeout if they’re basically saying it won’t change because they’ve already reviewed it.

If you watch the play again, there is no way the ref on the far side of the field who called the mark on the play could see Kyle and his position- there were at least 10 players blocking the ref's view of Kyle. Kyle was a half a body over the goal line when he went down. That's the kind of play that requires a few minutes of review from all available angles to make the correct determination. Not a 10 second decision. It ended up being a bad decision that did impact the outcome of the game. So many less important play reviews are called in games that sometimes take 3-5 minutes to make a decision.
Other refs had a better view and they should have huddled. And there is no way anyone upstairs or in Chicago took more than 5 seconds to judge he was down before the goal line. The whole purpose of replays is to try and make the fairest decision possible. They didn't even give it a chance.

That is disappointing to read…hope he was the exception. Typically NU fans are very nice (nicer than most anyways)

Yeah, definitely the exception. Everyone else was very nice. I noticed on Nebraska's stadium rules that they say fans should not stand the whole game and to call security if you have someone in front of you who does stand.
