Money not an issue

The football money problem referenced on this board for the last 2 years by the supposed insiders was absolute folklore. And while the athletic department budget still needs work, football has been doing fine over the last few years even without the whole B1G share. Yet many on this board continually said we don't have the money for a coach - that was never true and it was always more of an issue of leadership from the top not wanting to focus on football or spend the money - - hopefully over the next few weeks we will see tangible evidence that has finally changed.....

I must say I am eating a big plate of Crow right now. If Barchi goes out and hires a coach where money is not an option I was completely wrong about the man. I couldn't be more happy to be wrong in all my life. My wife and I may just decide to up our annual donation to help out the cause because they are now showing the commitment we are looking for. Good job Barchi.

He seems fed up with having to deal with this crap, and it looks like he understands that the best way to not have to deal with it is to spend the money on qualified people to come and fix it.

Pretty much. Plus, he's used to making decisions in the 100's of millions. I doubt the extra million or two he will need to shell out for a new coach phases him

where is all this money coming from...I mean its a lot...$5 million to pay off Flood, Hermann, and the assistants and then what another $5 million for new staff...we must be swimming in money and donations

Julie was doing a good job fundraising ;)

Barchi has clearly had enough. He saw where being cheap and leaving these decisions up to amateurs has led. He is personally invested in this, being part of the search committee. He done spending time and resources on people not qualified to be in their positions. It's obvious now.

He has worked behind the scenes to make this happen. Politically, with boosters and likely with B1G input.

The gloves are off, he and the real powers have had enough.

Well I've said before in practical terms it really doesn't cost that much. It was about 4.7M by my calculations that I posted in another thread going through each coach's contract. But that's a worse case scenario. Only Flood/Fraser have offsets for new jobs that pay them less than RU. The payments stop to the rest when the get new employment and I don't think any of them will be sitting on their ass in the offseason or they become stale. So I estimated at least savings of 1.5M or so assuming most move on to other jobs.

With JH it's the same. We owe her 2.5yrs on her 450K contract so around 1M but I think she's got the same thing in her contract where payment stop upon new employment. So it probably wouldn't cost that much either maybe around 600-700K if she sits out a year.

Let's hope lesson's have been learned. Barchi at least seems to be taking athletics seriously now. If he is only doing so during this transition period to get the right people in place, I'm fine with that.

Where did all the money come from? And poor Flood was working for peanuts.
Poor Flood should've been working for actual peanuts rather than the millions he made. Throw all the money you want at him, he was still a bad coach.

Plenty of money to spend. I and others said, following the incident in Dec of 2013, this wouldn't be a problem in the future. What happened that year was different, as funds were NOT going to be approved by Barchi/etc, then JH wasn't able to raise enough, quickly, to make a move, and Flood beat USF. Immediately thereafter word was that WHEN the time was right, if Flood needed to be fired, funds to do so - along with those for a proper B1G staff - would be made available.

So by Flood beating USF the entire plan collapsed. That was a bigger game than I thought.

Does anyone think then that there are names that are not currently on the SN or local media hot board that we may try and grab? It's a very underwhelming list to say the least.

Why not go for a Mark Richt? A Dan Mullen? A Bo Pelini? At least Richt and Pelini are no longer under contract (with heavy buyouts I should say) and Mullen may want to jump ship before his seat heats up. Don't think he will sustain level of success at Miss State once Prescott leaves. I think the Pelini being nuts thing was just a bad excuse to get rid of him and I'm thinking Nebraska is wishing they could have that one back now. Point is, if there's money, Cristobal, Rhule, Golden and Schiano can't be the best we can possibly do, can it?

lol....irrational exuberance --- money is ALWAYS an issue - but sounds like nickle and dime $ issues will not get in the way.....

1. How is money not an issue? This is Rutgers.

2. If money truly isnt an issue than how come Mark Richt hasn't been announced yet?

Do you really care where it's coming from? Apparently this has been in the works for some time and Barchi found a source to fund this. Whether it's an internal source or a booster or some anonymous gift...who gives a rats ass. As long as it gets done.

LOVE those four words, "money not an issue", really, think about it, is there any situation in life that these words aren't loved?

Guys: IMHO - purely that - "money is not an issue" means $5-6M for a complete staff, not anything too crazy, but that's a VERY GOOD staff right there with the right guy at the helm (for a reasonable amount...like $2.5/year and the rest for staff).

Money was most certainly an issue until very recently. Something changed - either a donor is footing a lot of this or Barchi just said F it I've had enough, time fix this myself with Rutgers money.

Maybe we will end up with Schiano. That salary is in his ball park. What other high profile coach would want the job at that low salary?

Or there is a political play. Maybe all 3.

No, it wasn't an "issue," this is a fallacy yet again perpetuated, here, by some of the same people who perpetuate a lot of other fallacies on these boards. This is what happens when the same circles of people corroborate on misinformation and/or assumptions.

Again, we're not going to pay $5-6M/year for a HC, but read my post earlier in this thread.

If money isn't an issue go get Mark Richt. Then I'll be on board with the new AD despite his bad hires at SHU.

For what it's worth, that's apples to oranges. It's not like SHU has either the pockets or a prime destination for a big name. This is a B1G coaching job, candidates are a plenty...

Not saying I don't have my reservations, but, it's not like he was playing with a full deck at SHU.

Maybe Gov. Christie lent a lot of money to Rutgers for choosing Chistie's guy. Who was it that recommended that Bob Mulcahy be hired as AD?
