Money not an issue

For what it's worth, that's apples to oranges. It's not like SHU has either the pockets or a prime destination for a big name. This is a B1G coaching job, candidates are a plenty...

Not saying I don't have my reservations, but, it's not like he was playing with a full deck at SHU.
No doubt but SHU is in the BE and for basketball that has been a very good conference. He could have found good people for those positions in MBB/WBB but his hires were bad on both counts.

He can redeem himself in my eyes if he goes out and makes a stellar hire for us and Mark Richt would be that.

The fundraising front I can't comment on I'm just speaking to the hiring front. I always say 2 things I care about with regards to ADs. Hiring good coaches and fundraising. The hiring good coaches part I can't say I'm confident if I look at his SHU hires. The fundraising front I haven't looked up enough to know but others say he did well there. I'd like to hear about how much he raised in his 2 years as AD. It seems like a short time to have much of a track record but who knows.

That's a whole 'different realm of $$$$.
Well that's a big deal. People were on JH's ass for it and they should be on Hobbes as well if you're going to be consistent. There are reports of a big Towers' donation on the table already so get it done.

No, it wasn't an "issue," this is a fallacy yet again perpetuated, here, by some of the same people who perpetuate a lot of other fallacies on these boards. This is what happens when the same circles of people corroborate on misinformation and/or assumptions.

Again, we're not going to pay $5-6M/year for a HC, but read my post earlier in this thread.

Sorry but Rutgers did not have the money pledged and all ready to go sitting aside ready for this day. It took a culmination of many events on and off the field to get to this point.

If Flood goes 4-8 this season without all of the extra curricular events I would bet he's still the coach. Why? Money.

Barchi obviously took charge today and did what he needed to do but money was most certainly an issue. An issue that they are now going to resolve thankfully.

Okay. The fact you're saying Barchi "took charge today" is all I need to know buddy. This has been in the words for a good week or so now. No worries, not going to argue, but the money was never the issue (since Dec 2013).

maybe real donors were that happy to clean up the mess in the athletic department

I think your post is spot on.
While I have no evidence or inside information like some others I believe that top donors stimulated the firings by opening up their wallets. I can only assume they'll have a say on who our next HC and AD based on one or two articles I read this morning. I do not believe this was a unilateral decision made by the President.

I'm well aware this was in the works for awhile. Barchi obviously didn't roll out of bed and makes all these decisions "today". Please don't take my words so literally.

If money wasn't an issue Flood would have been canned back earlier in the Fall like he would have been at any other school.

Not going to argue anymore - I think we both got what we wanted today.

Barchi has clearly had enough. He saw where being cheap and leaving these decisions up to amateurs has led. He is personally invested in this, being part of the search committee. He done spending time and resources on people not qualified to be in their positions. It's obvious now.

He has worked behind the scenes to make this happen. Politically, with boosters and likely with B1G input.

The gloves are off, he and the real powers have had enough.
Let's not be precipitous. I hope he takes off the purse strings here. But his saying money doesn't matter isn't quite the same as his going out and spending what it takes to bring in a high powered coach.

I think it would be logical and I agree w/your reasoning. I just won't count my awesome coaching staff until I see them hired.

I must say I am eating a big plate of Crow right now. If Barchi goes out and hires a coach where money is not an option I was completely wrong about the man. I couldn't be more happy to be wrong in all my life. My wife and I may just decide to up our annual donation to help out the cause because they are now showing the commitment we are looking for. Good job Barchi.

maybe Barchi is starting to view this hire as his outgoing legacy? one thing to always expect at RU - the unexpected.

Is it possible that Delaney stepped in as early as his October visit and told Barchi the B1G would make funds available if needed in the form of an advance on future payments. I recall they did something similar when they announced Maryland was joining as they had major budget issues.

OK so money is not the limiting factor? really? really really?
OK then assume that the list of prospect might include:
Mark Richt
Bill O'Brien
John Harbaugh
Chip Kelly
Les Miles
....... OK, OK so let's be realistic - what is probably meant is that of the kind of coaches that RU will be considering, money will not be the deal-breaker - so if a guy like ...oh say,Dan Mullen was engaged in discussion, this time things would not get hung up on salary - or salary for his staff.

Possibly the process of crafting a 'short list' will be also aided by the interactions with Delaney ... and maybe even a few B1G 'elder statesmen' - Maybe it all has similarities to when Pete Rozelle
assessed the dysfunctionality of the NY Giants and said - Look - go hire George Young - he can help you.

I think things were so bad between the warring factions of Tim and Wellington that Rozelle appointed George Young to run the operation. I don't think they had a choice. Rozelle carried a big stick back then and told the Mara's your going to let George run the team. Thank God he did because Tim and Wellington hated each other so much they couldn't even be in the same room at the same time. Basic decisions couldn't even be made because they disagreed with one another just to disagree. Maybe that's what RU needs. LOL
