My first calls for a new coach would be...

You don't what Fickel.

Pelini is an @$$hole and hates the fans. Also he hates recruiting.

I would push hard for Matt Campbell if you can't get Rhule.

Bo would be great, he's Italian, hates the media and negatoid fans and wins a TON of Games. Plus, since he is coaching a FCS school, getting back into the Big Ten would be a huge upgrade.

He is also a cat person.... cough...

I would also take the Temple HC as well.

As far as Schiano ....

Yes is is a defensive genius. I LOVE his defense. I respect what he did here and everyone should but lets not rewrite history.

But, he is terrible at offense and is a piss poor game day coach that refuses to make any adjustments. He is also a control freak who drives his other coaches away.

If we could bring him and the Baylor OC together... then... maybe.. but we couldn't afford that.. and GS would want full control over everything and drive him away after one season.

So no.. time to move on folks.

We need a fresh clean break. We are not in the Big East or American, we are in the Big Ten, time to act like it!

I brought up his name up earlier and I am going to do it again after seeing Jim Mora's success here in southern CA. Brian Schottenheimer! He is young and coaching is in his blood! He also lived in this area before as a OC for the Jets! He should be on Julie's short list when the time comes to fire Flood! His name would definitely get attention of recruits.

As long as his father comes with him [winking].

Never in a million years do I want to go back to the Schiano days.

Yes, he built the program through micromanagement. But he never got over the hump. 2007-2012 were 6 straight years of underachieving. He couldn't stop WVU's spread. What makes you think he can stop tOSU?

And then in TB, his team absolutely imploded. It's time for new blood. Let's invest in someone with promise rather than the same re-treads.

Schiano is NOT coming back here.
But if you wanna really appreciate the guy just look at two lists:
1. a list of the head football coaches here at Rutgers not named Schiano. And please let's keep it to in your lifetime....nobody from back when Princeton or Quantico Marines was the BIG game of the year.
2. a list of coaches who would actually consider the job. I've been around long enough to see this process play out any number of times. And one think I've learned is that the list of prospective head coaches here is way smaller than most of you think and would not include most of your favorite candidates.
And whatever positives there are about this job are entirely due to the guy some of you wouldn't want back here .....you know....'cause he was a "micromanager" or a "mediocre game day coach".
I'm really curious as to what color the sky is in the world some of you apparently live in ?.

A few counterpoints:
1. It is apples and oranges to compare the list of head coaches that would have previously been available to us during the Big East/AAC days to the potential current list now that we're in the Big Ten. Similar budget constraints are there but future media revenues RU will receive are sure to triple and may quadruple. We are now playing OSU, Michigan, PSU and Michigan St every year in a supremely stable conference, we're located in the largest media market but the admin support is still lacking.
2. I do agree with you that a contingent of the fanbase (I would be included on this list) at times takes for granted what GS accomplished here BUT
3. Some of the traits that helped him turn our program around--specifically the stubbornness, the micromanaging, the inability to let an O-coordinator run the offense--would put a ceiling on any success we could achieve under his leadership unless you buy into the SI story that he has learned from past mistakes and evolved over the last few years.

I'm on the fence; about a month ago I sided with some posters who thought it might be time for Schiano (assuming he would come back) but that is mostly a reflexive response to the off-the-field issues and the bad defense we've had to endure both this season and last. I also think many people underestimate what kind of salary GS would be looking for (their frame of reference is in the $2m/yr range whereas I think he'll be looking for $3m+). I agree with you, though, that the list of candidates who would actually throw their hat in the ring will be much smaller than the 'hot lists' the media and fan sites publish. As such, there is a greater risk/reward with most of the realistic candidates vs. GS.

Once again with the fan beat down of possible new head coach candidates,Flood wins by default because he comes at the right price and NJ high school coaches like him.Elite NJ recruits favor playing out of state which is the crux of Rutgers recruiting problems .

lol there are plenty of guys, at Flood's price, who have GOT to be able to recruit, run a program, AND coach better. No doubt in my mind. Sorry if anyone disagrees with me just have to be honest.

I've always said 1.5M-2.5M is the range we'd pay if/when we ever make a change and that's fine with me because most first time P5 coaches get that much on that first contract.

I mentioned Tom Herman as a good coaching candidate in general during that whole USF thing a couple years ago. Most here were on Narduzzi and wouldn't even discuss Herman despite me bringing up his background etc...His star has really shot up since being a national champ OC and now with a great start at Houston. So unfortunately he may be out of reach with the 2.2M buyout and other competitors. Same for Fuente my other choice coming into this year.

If we were to make a change, after those 2 candidates TCU's OC Doug Meacham would be my next tier choice. He only makes 350K. Working with Patterson too, I'd hope and like to think he won't completely neglect the defense and will definitely do a good job on offense as he has at multiple stops and with different qbs.

Pelini is making 150k at Youngstown...we could give him an increase if everyone on the board chipped in .

Babbers is making something like 450k...already beat 2 B1G teams this year.

The cost argument is baloney. Plus Towers is on the hook for most of the buyout.

Article today that Bill O'Brien is having major issues with the Houston management.

Remember, he is tight with Belicheck, who loves RU, and hated the "Paterno people"...the RU atmosphere is a total 180.

He has proven himself a good recruiter and won some B1G games. I would be very interested.

Hermann should be at the top of any list. He would bring up the program up to new prominence. His resume is impressive, and it's high time that Rutgers new coach, that has come from a premierly elite program, originally, and recruits and thinks like it.

What he's doing in Houston is not so impressive.
In college you can get any player that buys your recruiting pitch.

In the NFL, you cannot control your roster the same way.

So what he's doing in the pros has very little to do with what he did/can do in college.

You commenting about Schiano or O'Brien? I'm confused.

O'Brien, but this also applies to Schiano, Spurrier, Saban, Haaugh, and even other coach who went from college, to the pros.

If Flood is fired, and O'Brien is fired, O'Brien instantly sores to near the top of my list.

I would still rather have Pellini, but O'brien would be number 2.

The same Brian Schottenheimer that Jets fans ran out of town on a greased rail?

Jay Paterno has B1G coaching and recruiting experience. He can't find work so economics would suggest he could be signed on the cheap. He has experience working with QBs. And your personal feelings aside, he has a lifetime studying the game with a very successful football mind.

My only information on Rutgers comes from this site. You seem to have budgetary issues that will limit who you can realistically recruit, have QB issues, and need someone who has experience recruiting.

If you can't pay for a known, proven elite coach, it seems you have to find a rock star in waiting and roll the dice on a first time HC or someone with potential at a smaller school.. Discuss the merits of my observations. Or go lowbrow with classless pedophile jokes. But don't take that route and say you want to develop a football rivalry based on winning on the field.

PS: I've flown out of BWI once, but don't visit the website.

If your only info on rutgers comes from this site then you get A LOT of bad Info. Lol

It doesn't matter who you get because in 3 years you guys will be having the same conversation anyway. Coach has only gone to 3 bowl games in 3 years. won a conference champions and and had us with a winning record in the 1st year of the Big ten. So whoever we bring in they will not have time to implement their system and players before you all are calling for his head. This is what you guys do and enjoy, so keep making your stupid list.
