Everyone,

Rather than try to answer every post about yesterday's article I figure that I would wait for the smoke to clear and then engage with this follow up.

I think that Steve did a good job painting the picture of the current situation but as with all news coverage of this type he wasn't able to include everything I said so here is some additional context:

  • I did call out the fanbase and all the excuses I've heard over the years. Some of these excuses were repeated in the strings I read yesterday so thanks to those who made my case for me.
  • Also included in that fanbase were the larger donors who have yet to step up in this effort. They site donor fatigue, not understanding NIL, lack of information, the need for tax deductions, etc. as some of the reasons they are sitting on the sidelines for now. I also think that lack of direction from the athletic department has been a factor and I hope that some of them saw yesterday's piece and will now contribute.
  • A great source of frustration especially in our larger conversation with larger donors is the fact that we use 15 percent of the money raise for administrative and marketing costs. These are the same folks that run big business and should understand the need to re-invest some of the money to make more money for student athletes. They also pay themselves big salaries.
  • As you can now see, the Athletic Department while they "support" us, cannot "endorse" us. This makes many of the marketing ideas suggested by you either extremely difficult or cost prohibitive because the department will not just let us market, advertise, put tables out, hand our flyers, fly airplanes, etc. without charging us for do that. While we totally understand that you need to have the money to spend the money.
  • Many of you have asked about our outreach to the business community. We are launching a business subscription service similar to the subscriptions we've had for individuals. The news release announcement is included below.
  • Finally our 501-C3 application has been filed and we should have the tax ID number shortly. If you are interested in making a tax deductible donation email me at jnewman@hodgespart.com for the details.
As always thanks for the support. We may not always agree with each other but our hearts are mostly in the right place and I appreciate that.

Best,

Jon

Here’s the release officially announcing our new subscription for businesses. Happy to discuss. Feel free to release.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Knights of The Raritan Launches Business Subscriptions for Rutgers Student-Athlete NIL Deals

PISCATAWAY, NJ (October 14, 2022) – Knights of The Raritan (KTR) today unveiled its business subscription option for Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals for Rutgers University student-athletes.

KTR and its day-to-day operational partner Student Athlete NIL (SANIL) rolled out the subscription tiers on the collective’s website, www.knightsoftheraritan.com. Businesses have the opportunity to become recurring partners for as little as $100 per month. More extensive packages are developed for contributions of up to $1,500 per month, and one-time figures also are accepted at certain thresholds.

The Member Benefit Program includes exclusive student-athlete interviews and content, logo inclusion on KTR apparel, autographed memorabilia, tickets to events, commercial endorsements on multiple media platforms, on-site visits by athletes, and other to be determined items.

Since its watershed launch in May 2022, Knights of The Raritan only had been accepting individual subscriptions and one-time contributions from Scarlet Knights fans and supporters, but the extension into local, regional and national businesses has always been a goal.

“Rutgers student-athletes will now have the opportunity to work with businesses around RU’s New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses and hopefully around the country,” said Jon Newman, President of Knights of The Raritan. “We started the collective to support these students through grassroots efforts with the Rutgers fanbase, but now the corporate community will be able to join in providing NIL opportunities for Scarlet Knights athletes and receive valuable promotion along the way.”

“This business subscription program is already underway at other NIL collectives in college sports, and we’re excited to bring it to Rutgers University athletes through Knights of The Raritan,” said Jason Belzer, Founder and CEO of Student Athlete NIL. “This is a natural extension for businesses that are a part of, or tangential to, University communities and we’re looking forward to working on many creative NIL deals with these businesses and brands.”

The business subscription offering for Knights of The Raritan is available immediately.
