My thoughts on Reiber

Be more aggressive!! Watch him on pick and rolls. The kid is so damn tentative. Dive to the freaking rim and demand the ball and go up strong. Dunk it or get fouled. Instead the kid hesitates and doesn't get open.

This kid has enough athleticism and touch to be a factor. He plays timid. I love Pike. But he needs to demand more from him. He could/ should easily give us a few buckets a night. Which we need!
It’s not going to happen. Everyone has been saying the same thing for 3 years.

Cliff overall is not prone to early fouls. He wasn't at all last season. Had a couple games this season which seem to be outliers
It can be argued he doesn't really play defense so not really prone to fouls

Around this time last year Reiber got his touch and started scoring. I know Pikes sends him in off the bench saying, "I'm sending you in to shoot and score. It's not to give you a better view." That lasts for about 15 seconds and then Reiber is not calling for the ball or drifting to an open corner. Wolf is not aggressive enough either. For both Wolf and Reiber I'd remind them that they're in for three minutes so they should run their butts off and make the most of it.
Reiber is not weak or slow. In fact, he's got a pretty good bounce. He's just got to find away to re-light that fire and score inside and out. Until then, I prefer to see the Wolf.

He's one of the highest rated defensive players in the country according to multiple advanced statistics

Did you see what happened when Cliff and Mag got subbed out last game?

Why the fixation on Reiber? He should be in the rotation for minor minutes. He has played solid at D and his O hasnt been there in limited minutes. Thats pretty much it. His D has been better than Woolfolk to date but they both should be in the rotation.

His D has been terrible.

presence and weakside D/help, yes, he's huge plus

i was referring to mano a mano D on the block

dominated nearly every game

You are probably correct. If I'm being honest, I saw an interview with him before the season and you could tell he lacked 100% confidence. The slightest doubts are a problem at this level.

Becuase he is the most underachieving player on the team. He doesn't lack ability, he lacks confidence.

He lacks strength and athletic ability. And if you lack confidence, you aren't going to have a hard time performing on the court.

Sure. Who cares? Edey picked up 2 early and sat. Could have easily been Cliff. That's why I would have started Rieb or Wolf, just to see how things went early. Don't know why you are still so pissy about the idea. It's long over anyway.
Then you are willing to just put your team in a hole right from the start. That's a way to get Eddy feeling good early. It's just a dumb idea.

Dean is soft and physically overmatched. He can hit an occasional three but that’s not enough to warrant many minutes.

My Reiber hypothesis:

Dean must be crushing it in practice. The staff is hoping that translates into game action. Why else is he first big off the bench lately? I watch the perimeter guys honestly trying to get him touches in the paint. They know what he's capable of. We saw flashes last year of a guy capable of scoring at all 3 levels.
He's not as bad on D that some are making him out to be. The run MSU made when he first checked in was NOT on him. Watch the tape. He runs the floor better than most bigs and is athletic enough to complete.

So what's the issue with his underperformance? Hard to get inside someone's head, but it looks more mental than physical. Clearly the staff sees something. It's not like he's been buried on the bench like some other guys. He's playing for a reason.

I think Wolf is just fouling too much. A lot of our games are close and if he comes in and picks up a couple quick fouls, it helps the other team get to the bonus faster

In retrospect he should of played more and been featured more vs bad teams to build up his confidence . I know it's not Pikes job to spoon feed Reiber. But if anyone needs affirmation that he can contribute, its Dean..

Yeah, and maybe give him a blanket to hold.
