With a look to the future and in response to growing trends in college sports, the University will transition its men’s and women’s lacrosse programs to club status.

Montclair will also launch an NCAA Division III women’s flag football program that will begin competition for the fall 2025 semester.

So moving 1 men's sport and 1 woman's sport to club status to add women's sport, and not club but D3 increases opportunity? Who handles their press releases? Karine Jean Pierre?

Awful trade off. And if Montclair has done it then I can’t help but wonder who else may do it? Stockton? Kean?

It seems more and more high schools in NJ are adding it.

And you can still play another sport while this is in season.

But most high schools in New Jersey already have both men's and women's lacrosse teams to feed the college. So why the drop 2 teams to club status? And Montclair has had lacrosse (at least men's) for over 60 years.

I’m not approving of the measure.

Just noticing that flag football for girls seems to be growing on the NJ high school scene.

Seems to be more popular and ingrained down there.

But you’re right, someone might be next.

Flag football is going to be huge.

Why? Hadn't noticed it was growing or being added anywhere other than recreation programs. Cutting Montclair LAX seems like collateral damage from the Bloomfield merger, which I still don't understand any benefits of or reasons for. Would Montclair have dropped LAX if the didn't merge with Bloomfield?

I can’t answer that either.

But it does seem every year another school in the Shore Conference is adding it.

Maybe it’s more localized. And maybe there is the NFL part who seems to be pushing it.

Flag football is exploding and will show up at more colleges quickly and shortly. Will be a full NJSIAA sport soon (which does mean it will hurt some spring girls sports as they will no longer be allowed to play flag football and another sport).

Then that’s a new rule, as my understanding is you could play something else?

Maybe because it wasn’t as you said sanctioned?

I can't answer about a merger but I know FF for girls is growing very rapidly.

FF is now a CIF sanctioned sport which means it's being taken seriously.
