Name one area we can improve this weekend

what is your top one...and only one.

Protecting the ball

Fans need to arrive before Kickoff !!!! Instead of ripping the coaching staff when things are looking negative, why not try to enhance the ability of our program to recruit and make the game day environment more attractive to a potential recruit.. Nothing says "dont come here" to a recruit more than an empty stadium when the team runs out of the tunnel. Especially when they just came from a visit to Penn State or some other power school that is packed prior to kickoff. Whining on message boards does nothing to help a program. One of the few tangible things fans can actually do is create a supportive environment for potential players.

LINE PLAY
Keep our QB clean. Opens holes for the RB. Allows pass plays to develop. Miraculously, our receivers can get open. Meanwhile their RB can't find a way out of the backfield. Their QB is hurried and throws into traffic. Turnovers happen. A win is manufactured. It ain't rocket surgery.

Not show up on the wrong side of a horribly lopsided score in an update during the better game I'm watching.

Agree. If we don’t win Line play on both sides of the ball then we have a bigger problem this year than I thought. How many Buffalo players would have been considered by Ash and staff as recruits? If we are not bigger and more physical than Buffalo on the LOS then the immediate future will be a knightmare for this team.

My real concern is if we can get production from the QB position. I have to see it to believe it.

That “line play” includes a lot of elements. More narrowly, our running game.

For the WR's to catch the STINKIN ball. An offense that moves the ball a little gives the D a fighting chance.

You would probably get more fans to come in if they weren't get harrassed at the lines for apples and wallet sizes.

i have seen this same post for 20 years on the board...fans are just tired of it, they are tired of being duped by an administration that continues to do things half assed and on the cheap..and that has been going on for 40 plus years

It sucks when you read:
  1. Protecting the ball / no turnovers
  2. Better tackling
  3. Better line blocking
And you think, "Good point!" to each post that mentions it.

Well, if the fanbase is unwilling to do their part in creating an environment of excitement that is conducive to enticing recruits, then no-one should be surprised when our coach has difficulty luring top talent to RU. When schools like East Carolina can pack their stadium week after week, creating an atmosphere of excitement, it is no wonder they can recruit quality talent while RU has it's difficulties. Recruiting is so much more than just what the coach and his staff bring to the table. When fans are apathetic and contribute their time and money at such a low rate, there is no surprise that a coach has difficulty recruiting here. And people really need to get over the pipe-dream that RU would ever be able to use $$$$ to lure a top notch/proven coach to come here with the current status of the program/ fan base. Recruiting in the top conferences is hard enough... why would any top coach want to be handicapped from the start by the situation as it is here. Just never going to happen... The only way we are ever going to get our program to be successful is stay with a coach who can show steady slow improvement, with certain dips to be expected along the way . There is never going to be a meteoric rise to the top. Our fans need to expect a slow rise with certain down years along the way. ... but the fan base needs to be disciplined as well and support the team anyway.... hard to stomach for many, but probably the only way it could happen....if it ever will. I've been through 40+ years of following this and see how it is. It's just the way it is. No amount of BIG Ten $$ is going to make any of this happen much faster.... everyone else in our league has a HUGE head start on us, and it certainly helps, but the culture, and perception, is what it is. RU had a very nice stretch in the mid to late 2000's.... but you can see, just a short 5 year stretch of success does not change 50 years of perception about a program. We are now cycled back to the early 2000's. A build is a 10/ 20 year thing. Aint gonna happen in 4 ,5 10 years. May have a few years like the mid 2000's but we are far far away.

QB play. If we didn't turn the ball over giving up field position and easy scores the outcome of the game would have been much different. Art has to see what he looks at and not fall for defenders baiting him to throw to them.

the truth is Rutgers does not belong in the Big 10 based on performance, committment to athletics and fanbase

Is that true for all sports, or just football, in your opinion?

They showed a little something last year in winning 3 B1G games. Was looking for them to build on that this year. So far, not so good, but the season is young, like our team!!

How about being ready to play with energy and intensity right from the start. I am really tired of being down by 10 to 14 pts 5 minutes into the game.

Went to the Kansas game this week. Do not ever criticize the RU fan base.

getting rid of the head coach, the entire staff but McNulty?

Protecting the ball with improved tackling a close second. Sorry that's more than one, but it was tough to limit it to two.

I gave my "one area" up above, but here's more of a ranked list:

1. Tackling
2. Ball security
3. Improved pass protection
4. Get pressure on QB
5. Catch the damn ball
6. Improved run blocking

all sports but football has the least chance to be successful
