National Duals Qualifications announced

Thanks Mike. I love Brian and I wish him well but if he thinks he's going 197 or even 184 that's a big mistake. He needs to go 174 to have a chance. Good luck Brian.
Cutting 30 pounds isn’t impossible but for someone who hasn’t had to make a significant cut in his entire life, it’s probably not going to happen.

We peaked in 2019 and even you must admit the last 6 years have been very little progress..

So the only thing Nebraska has over RU is the brand?? I’m guessing this is the same logic for why we can’t catch all the other mid-upper tier programs? Goodale keeps saying the goal is to eventually be a trophy team— you better let him know we gotta wait another 80 more years or so to wait our turn and build branding.
Peaked yes, but I don't think we've really dipped much. Yeah, we haven't gotten a top 10 since, but that was because of two athletes and the way scoring works (which is another topic).

The team has definitely improved in balance, depth and recruiting. One of the problems is that the portal actively has also surged, so where we have improved, so have the other teams. We've also benefited from the portal, but not like some of the other schools that are swinging stacks of money to the students.

I just think that in order to get to that top 10-5 level, RU needs 1) better support from admin, 2) more time of 3) if you want to cut that time by 85%, then get an Olympic level coach, which admin support still needs to be fully supportive financially.

Also, no more dual meets against scrub schools. No more Midlands either. How many times do we need to wrestle kids from Princeton, Penn, Binghamton and Northwestern? No more west coast trips either, unless that is our only angle for recruiting Cali kids.

Get them to Cliff Keen and (I hate to say it) but maybe Soldier Salute? I think they need more experience against some of those Midwestern schools in the Big 12. Southern Scuffle isn't what it used to be, but I'd like to see them wrestle teams like OKST, UNI, South Dakota State and North Dakota more often.

This sport’s measure of success has always been what happens in the post season, namely the nationals..

We peaked in 2019 bc we finally landed a top recruit that wasn’t a bust/hurt and likewise a top transfer. This sport doesn’t reward “balance” or winning duals.. it rewards high end guys that can score points at nationals. And until something changes this is the rules we need to adapt to. There is a saying don’t hate the player hate the game..

Last 2/3 year we did not have an AA if that’s not regression idk how else to sugar coat it. And what has being a team that punches up its weight in duals gotten RU? Certainly not even an entree into a duals meet tourney. Until those dual rankings are even worth something it’s nearly meaningless.

Guys, we can complain all that we want. The reality is that the team does not produce at Big Tens or Nationals. I don't give a crap about beating Gardner-Webb, Kent State, Duke, F&M, LIU, Lock Haven, and Clarion. Why are we even wrestling these schools? Princeton, Penn, and Rider, I'm fine with. They are local rivals and have good wrestlers. I'm fine with wrestling Donnie/Sebastian/Buxton at Columbia. I'm fine wrestling Army and Navy. Where's Cornell? Where's Lehigh? Can we get Okie St. back? Kudos to Goodie for getting Va. Tech and NC State on the schedule. How about Northern Iowa, Iowa State, NDSU, SDSU, Missouri, ASU, and/or Oregon St. on the schedule?
Goodale does not want to risk finishing under 500. That is why despite the unbalanced scheduling Rutgers B10 duals record is a more accurate indication of their true duals ability. I place little weight in a subjective ranking.

Literally one cares about being .500. This isn’t baseball.

Goodale takes tremendous pride in never finishing under 500 in duals. Coming in as a high school coach with zero college experience Goodale's mindset was "win duals". This philosophy helped build the program up. Unfortunately, an emphasis on duals will never get Rutgers where it should and could be, a perennial top ten program.

You couldn't be more wrong about that. RU has always reached out to wrestle the top teams yearly. But I guess it makes you feel better to bash a coach. A couple of you guys still like to throw out the HS Coach...Goodale is 225-91-1 in. D1 duals, 102 NCAA Qualifiers, coached 19 AA, 2 National Champs, and Won NCAA Coach of the Year...He also brought an absolute zero fan base to one of the best (paid) attended venues in the USA.
But a couple of you think he's A HS COACH? haha

You should write fiction novels, since you have a vivid imagination

Arizona State, Lehigh, Little Rock, Missouri, and Wyoming selected in the lottery. What a joke. UPenn was removed and didn't want to participate.

Maybe one day RU will qualify.. although looks unlikely unless RU gets some stud performances… looks like the top 12 teams, at nationals, gtd a spot and the next group gotta rely on ping pong balls….

Dual meet rankings are completely worthless, what a joke. Lol
