Might mark the end of seton hall with them getting strict about this.

Sarcasm is high on this, but we've got a long way to go....SHU isn't the benchmark for the B1G right now, the league we play in is the longer term hurdle to be a consistent 20 win program....we need to finish up this recruiting class with more momentum and understand that teams like UConn and SHU are going to have portions of their fanbases take shots at us.....if that happens, it's because we are making progress, which in itself is the real compliment.

No need to be smug and sanctimonious when it comes to recruiting. Seton Hall did (and is currently doing) what was necessary to compete with the Big Boys. Rutgers is currently doing what is necessary to compete as well. Most, if not all, big time schools bend, twist and outright violate NCAA rules when it comes to recruiting. That's the real world of big time college basketball.

This is a good rule change. They hire the AAU coach and most of that salary goes right into the player's pocket. This rule change and time requirement should work to deter that practice.

I wonder if this rule would hold up in court?

That being said, it's hardly like Seton Hall is the first or the worst. Remember an assistant coach by the name of Ed Manning?

nicknamed the "SHOE Rule" after SHU's recruiting shenanigans with Whitehead & Tiny and Delgado & Antigua
I'm a little older than most here I'm guessing , but PJ had an extremely cozy relationship with AAU - there were lots of rumors even back then (and PJ got a LOT of NJ AAU kids)

He wasn't hiring AAU coaches, but..

Obsession with Seton Hall? The Seton Hall board has a 3 page thread on how Mathis is gonna decommit before he signs lol. I hope shu is stuck rolling in the shit for the next century.

I was referring to the OP. You land a big recruit and his first response begins with "Seton Hall..." rather than talking about the recruit or how it impacts your program? I'd say that's being obsessed on the wrong subject

This was passed months ago. You can't hire a family member or coach until 2 years have passed since the signing of a player.
I think that is a football rule. In basketball I believe the rule only applies if the family member, HS or AAU Coach is hired in a non coaching capacity: Ops Director, Video Coordinator, Player Development etc.

But you could be right, way too many rules for me to keep up with that's for sure

It wouldn't hold up in court under normal circumstances, but the NCAA, MLB and others often get to do what they want.

The rule only applies if the coach in question accepts a non-assistant position. So it wouldn't stop an AAU coach bringing his recruits to a school so long as he accepted an assistant coaching position with the school. The OP's post therefore represents a false premise regarding what occurred at SHU.

Agreed and I don't get the obsession with SHU and UConn. They are in the past.

That's cause their scared....what else could they hang their hat on?

Don't get too ahead of yourself. Seton Hall has been historically better. Not that I like them. I'm a Butler fan aswell. Pikiell has caught my attention though.
You completely missed my point. Now that we're in a different conference than them, why does it matter if they are better than us? We have to get to the point where we are better than half the teams in our conference to get to the NCAA Tournament and that's all that matters.

State pride and recruiting edge in the NY Metro area , is a reason why RU needs to show it's a better program than SHU.

Agreed. We are working hard and are improving. I think finally we are beginning to see the light. If SHU doesn't come up with a big recruiting class this year I think we will be right with them real soon. They will lose 4 very good seniors after this coming season.
