Need a whole new culture!

No, getting your ass kicked means you aren't doing it.

Can't come up with new slogans every coach. Build on what you have.

It's paint...it's not carved in granite.

If Bo Pellini got the job tomorrow and said, "uhh yeah, take that down" you would object?

A non Schiano disciple is going to want a clean break from that stuff, I can assure you of that.

I would object to Bo Pelini. That guy is a bigger meathead than Flood.

If chop is a part of our idiotic devotion to ground and pound--which is even more hopeless in the big ten than it was in the big east, if we couldn't make it work against connecticut how in the hell are we going to make it work against penn state let alone ohio state--then it has to go. FAMILY should never have left the locker room but it did due to the decision to put it in the uniforms. As such it should go because we all know what it means now and it's a joke.

Holy Shit. Try to not be purposely obtuse.

You sold your company to Bain for $800MM bucks. You flew to Columbus on your private jet and told Urban you'll pay him $10MM a year to come to RU. He accepts.

Upon your arrival in the Hale Center, he says, "take that down."

Do you object? Do you tell him CHOP is "everywhere" in this building and is a core principle of what this program does? Or do you say, "what color would you like that wall?"

With Schiano chop and family were attitude, not words. With Flood they are words without attitude.

Nebraska fans are still foaming at the mouth over his changing the Blackshirt tradition.
The reason why some want the Chop gone is because RU is losing. If it was winning
that Chop would be a tradition they enjoy.

But realistically, it's not so ingrained as a tradition that RU fans would be up in arms over it being axed .
Family is something that many complain about and I doubt losing it would upset so many that it had to be brought back.

As for a non Schiano disciple wanting one of them or both gone, if he feels they will help him as a HC , he'll have no problem using them.
If a new HC ( disciple or not) feels they're a hindrance to what he wants to accomplish, they'll be gone the second he takes the job.

I threw Pellini out there as an example of a winning coach who is available.

Make the coach whomever you want.

Any coach with ANY gravitas is going to have that old hokey stuff replaced with HIS OWN new hokey stuff. That is what coaches do.

Here is my opinion of Flood and the culture he created entering the B1G. Just replace "tennis" with football:

You know how the Seattle Seahawks raise the "12th man" flag before every home game? We should start a new tradition where we raise a "1-0" flag before kickoff. That will be Flood's contribution to the program. [roll]

Every fan should get a doodle pad and a golf pencil when they enter the stadium...

turn them in on the way out

Have to laugh to keep sane. This is depressing. Losing sucks but being non-competitive is the worst. Can't stress that enough. The only time we are competitive is in games vs. basketball schools like Kansas, Indiana, Maryland and North Carolina or the academies.

Countless teams use family. The chop is fine.

But the canon and the Knight are the only true traditions along with the fight song.

What we need is a new identity. We are not in the Big East anymore. Big East football doesn't even exist anymore.

Some of our sports teams have embraced this and have stepped up like both soccer programs and wrestling. Others were Big Ten ready like women's basketball.

Men's basketball looks like it may finally start to turn things around.

Football on the other hand appears to be stuck in the minor leagues with a bush league coaching staff.

The longer we refuse to upgrade football the bigger the hole will be to dig out of. Depending on who Maryland hires they could leave us in the dust leaving us to battle Indiana every year to not finish dead last.

There is too much money to be made with a successful football program.

Rutgers can't afford to suck at football.

Keep the chop - it's a defining mantra and something to build generations of tradition on. Sux the NCAA is so afraid of RU to outlaw such expression on the field and took away the chop from our players.

Changing the culture doesn't have to mean dropping the chop.
It's fine if you're winning and the team isn't outclassed on the field and the sideline. When that's the case (as it is this year) it's just silly. Slogans don't block, tackle, or cover receivers. Well coached players do.

Seriously...this program had no identity:

The chop and family were Schiano isms

Based on an identity on the field.

While out offense lacked identity...we had identity on defense and specialst teams that defined our program. We had a strength and conditioning program that defined on what a Rutgers football player was.

The talk meant something Bedause it has an identity that started their head coach

Our current regime has no identity.
None. It's fragmented on and off the field. Pieces not adding up to a coherent whole

Ask someone what Rutgers football is about right now...the answers will be different

Not the case to out previous coach

So the talk and slogans are meaningless until we get an identity...which isn't happening in a positive manner under this coach

OK, chop and family are fine in principal, but KF is creating a horrible culture of being unprepared and bad efforts.
He is the culture, he's awful.

We should keep the chop, and chop Flood from the coaching ranks.
