Taking a chartered bus leaving from Jersey City at 9:30am. What's my best route, time-wise, to the Greek Church?

Or since traveling from Jersey City take the NJ Tpke to Exit 10 and then take Route 287 North to the River Road Exit ( think it's exit 10 or 11) and take River Road for about 2 miles to the Greek Church on the left.

I think this is the best route. River Road is Exit 9 off Route 287.

Obviously, TPK to Exit 9 to 18N to River Road is the shortest route, but is 18 from the Turnpike to River Rd. that bad a couple of hours before the game? I'm assuming that's why people are recommending exit 10 to 287 to River Road, which is a few miles longer. Just curious...

For a charter bus it could be a little more hectic with all the construction at the Exit 9 Interchange with Routes 18 & 1. Taking 287 is a smooth ride to the River Road exit.

Yeah, traffic usually stops on River Road as you approach the stadium from Route 18. You'll have to drive past the stadium to get to the Greek Church coming from that direction. In my experience (which is limited because I usually take the train down from JC), you can have a 10-20 minute backup there depending how soon before the game and how large the crowd is that week. Being a late season nooner the delay might not be bad at all this week.

Looking at Google right now, going via Route 287 is about 6 minutes longer in free-flow traffic. If you add in stadium delay to the route via New Brunswick, you will probably save at least 5, maybe 15 minutes by taking Route 287 instead.

I was considering this route to bypass the fans walking across River Road, but then there's having to make a left across traffic to the Greek Church. We would hopefully be arriving by 10:30, so which direction on River Road gets us there quicker?

A lot depends on what time you are leaving.
If you leave at 9:30am should be ok either way .... Not much crossing Pedestrian traffic.

I personally would take the 287 route.....If it backs up you have multiple exits prior to River Road to get off on and still make it over to River Road

Defininitely take 287 route - you want to be heading towards the Greek Church from the other direction on River Road (i.e., going towards the Stadium).

I've never come through that way but I was thinking 287 would work better with the foot traffic. Add the rte 18 construction, which probably started in '81 when I got to campus, and it looks like I'll be looping around. Thanks all.

I come on Rt 287 for all home games. Exit 9, River Rd past stadium to White Lot. At 9;30 - 10:00 no problem, go right past Greek Church. Turning left is easy because traffic is periodically stopped for the Scarlet Lot. Enjoy the ride.

No comparison- NJTP to exit 10, to 287 North, To exit 9 River Road is shorter and faster any time of day

IIRC from making that drive this year the construction, at least headed from the tolls to Route 1, is finished. That right lane is done and traffic much easier to deal with now. No reason to get off at Exit 10 IMHO. I've made it in 35-minutes flat leaving from Weehawken, north of the tunnel, several Saturday mornings this year.

Damn you, Nuts. I had this all set. No question 287 is the longer option. River Road is always slow going west. I rarely drive but I've been stuck there a couple times.
