New outlook for Rutgers men's lacrosse after shocker win: 'Back in the spot we wanted to be'

Young guys are really starting to understand Rutgers lacrosse. Gotta give the staff credit. More often than not we are playing our best lacrosse when it matters most.

We played such a great game against Maryland, I am still so stoked about it.

Congrats to the coaches, congrats to the boys, congrats to the alumni, fans, etc., what an accomplishment!! Our defense was next level, I can't think of a better game played by a Rutgers goalie than what Cardin gave us, that was amazing. The guy was a General out there and the defense just looked so synchronized, elite stuff from all of 7 of them.

Our offense is taking positive steps - our shot selection is improving nicely, we were passing out of pressure instead of forcing shots. Zeller and Sommer connected on some nice goals, hopefully we see more of that.

The staff has a tough task in the next few games but also a huge opportunity. Enjoy the massive win but we have to stay hungry.

Gotta think that win makes the team even hungrier.

Michigan comes in with an offense that has been a challenge. If our D plays together like they have been and Cardin even has half the day he had against Maryland, it's going to be difficult for them to put up goals. As always, keeping turnovers down and faceoffs will be huge. Hopefully the offense can continue to take the steps necessary to win big games.

They also mentioned during the Maryland game how many of the young guys were hurt last year. That they just needed playing time. Wonder if what you are seeing now is a little bit of what they wanted to start doing last year but the injuries derailed that effort and then it took longer this year to get everyone up to speed. They needed some time to understand or adjust to what was expected.

Definitely a youth movement when you see the list of seniors for the Michigan game and it's only like 3 current starters.

100%. We had a horrific number of injuries last year. At times there were 18 guys on the sidelines in sweats. Many of those were the guys you are seeing now. They would have been eased in and gotten game reps. Instead their game reps came in roles expected to produce now. It most certainly slowed down their growth which manifested itself in the early half of the season. You just can’t simulate game reps. The hope is they would grow while winning but hiccups were always possible. Those freshmen and sophs are no longer freshmen and sophs. They’ve seen a lot. Gotta get through the next two games then the play gets ratcheted it up in the conference tourney.

One of those seniors might be back too.

I am in a quandary today. My sons will not skip their lacrosse and then football workouts, which will prevent us from going to the game. But I am also proud that they are prioritizing this on their own, and not being forced to do extra work. They love the extra work and have sought it out.

Good job Dad! You impressed on them the importance of team and commitment. They get it and will be rewarded in life. Tremendous work boys!!!!

Big game today. If they avoid a let down after that massive MD win it would be very impressive. 🤞
