New Rutgers President By April 25

Perhaps the article was written as a recruiting pitch for president candidates. Makes a credible case Rutgers University is trending upwards, with a lot of difficult restructuring work already completed.

Will be super if we have a new president named by April 25 who can hit ground running when Holloway steps away on July1.

I noticed the article did not mention athletics though.

Not surprised. I expect no traction on that until they've offered and the candidate has accepted. The new president is going to want to be involved in that process.

It’s not Murphy, right? I’ve heard that rumor in two different settings in the past few weeks.

I would think you need to have a PhD. Does Murphy? Idk
Ohio State’s president, Ted Carter, doesn’t have PhD or a master’s degree.

Ted earned oceanography degree at Naval Academy where he captained hockey team and became fighter pilot. Then Ted was boss at Naval Academy and University of Nebraska.

Would be interesting to see Rutgers faculty reaction if guy like Ted was hired to run RU.

It's April, so I would expect an announcement any day. After all, the new president is supposed to take over July 1. Once he or she is on board, the search for a new AD can move forward.

It’ll leak at some point but I’d imagine they’ll cut it as close to the BOG meeting on the 25th as possible before announcing. Less time for the usual suspects to organize and protest against whoever’s picked

If there is an official announcement this month (and I would be surprised if there's not) it will be at the BOG meeting because BOG makes the official decision. The question is whether the names of the final candidates, or at least of the leading candidate, will leak before then as they sometimes do.

I doubt that Murphy is a candidate. I don't see why he would want to be President of Rutgers. He can get a much more lucrative job or, if he wants to stay in politics, a better launching pad for a future candidacy.

Anybody got a name?
April 24th Board of Governors meeting agenda is out.

Lots on there like student housing at Helix, approving KPMG as auditor, but nothing on a new president.

Maybe the agenda will be amended to add the new president's hiring. Adding something that important at the last moment seems like bad practice though.

You'll notice that the agenda includes a closed session. Because the hiring of a president is a personnel matter, it wouldl be discussed and decided there, not in open session.

Appreciate your input. We'll find out next week whether Rutgers has a new president.
