I think you're wrong on this. Baker will be one of the best recruits we have with size and who can score. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. The kid is a baller.
He will be a freshman and their will be an adjustment period. Don't put high expectations on the kid as you may be disappointed when he doesn't live up to lofty expectations.
Baker plays against awful high school competition. It will be a huge step up for him in college. Do not count on anything from him as a freshman. He is also not a point guard.
Keep expectations realistic and you are never dissapointed.

High expectations? We would never set high expectations here. No, not at all. Haha hope you liked my sarcasm. I'm with you 100% about being cautious. I watched his highlights once, but don't really remember. I do know that he was our 1 or 2 target with only two scholarships to give. That much I like.

Give it a break. Have you seen what freshman are doing in this league, at Minnesota, at Maryland , at Nebraska. ? If the kid can shoot then likely he will shoot well when he gets here next year. We are recruiting better players with both Geo and the big guy from Centereach, who I expect to come in and play well.
RU needs to search the country for a grad transfer who can shoot the three to use up the remaining scholarship. It's the single biggest need on this team!

We've been here, done that, and got the t-shirt. I'll believe it when he's dropping 15-18 a night when the B1G lights turn on. Reducing mathletes from Drillbit Tech to ash is not an accurate predictor of future performance.
I like the way that Sa has been coming on, and the improved minutes from Doorson and Diallo. I think Gettys is a great bridge for us this year, and allows us to get those three guys up to speed in Pike's system and culture. While it's been great having Gettys this season, I do expect Doorson/Diallo/Sa to play a larger role next year.
Additions for next year will be Baker and Bullock, really, since he's apparently redshirting at this point. I also think that the year-to-year improvement in players with this staff will be better than we've seen with recent staffs, too.

Oh did I hit a nerve("Give it a break").Then don't complain about him next year if he struggles throughout the year. Yes and some of those freshman are usually in the top 100 of recruiting rankings across multiple sites and or adjusted very well to college life and the team. Yes there a few that surprise and sure hope he does surprise and meets or exceeds your expectations but unfair to put that on a freshman that needs to gel with his new team, get adjusted to college life, taking demanding college courses, and adjusting to his new coaches at the same time being away from his family.
Instead of saying the big guy from Centerreach, maybe you should get to know his name and give him respect instead of making him an after thought.
I don't know how a fan can say right now that this year will be better than the last 8 .League competition has started and Rutgers lost both games by double digits.
I'm not as high on Baker as some of you are. the recruiting sites had all the time in the world to readjust his rating but he stayed a two star composite. Yes he has had a stellar senior year in HS but so did Mike Williams. Somewhere between Thiam and Omuyuri as someone mentioned above is a good assessment.
Is there a comparison there? Not sure about it.

Seels, remember the 3 phase game. Baker genetically has long arms, great for defense.
He can shoot off the bounce, great for offense. Mike Williams most of the time has been a decent set shooter, not the same off the bounce. He will be a good player for Rutgers. But Rutgers Basketball is playing a team sport at the moment. And that is a change for most players.
We win more games this year by defending the 3, not shooting it. Just an observation as n one seems able to shoot the 3 at this point, and I do not see that changing. Mike Williams is the only competent three point shooter at the moment.
28 of PA St's 60 points were scored by three freshmen - 4* (#46 national player on rivals) Tony Carr had 15, 4* (#96 nationally) Lamar Stevens had 8, and 3* (#126 nationally) Mike Watkins had 5.
Baker currently isn't ranked by Rivals, but 247 has him at 2* and 408th nationally.
Hard to use the freshmen we just played against as a basis for setting expectations of Baker's performance next year.
Good information and while I agree Geo is not at that level, he supposedly can shoot and that's what we desperately need. While he will clearly get better as he matures, I think he fills a huge gap we have at this time.

Better than the last two years? I think we could manage that - at least statistically. I don't know if we'll manage to be better than the last 8.
I agree that we need shooters desperately, and that he fills a gap... and that he'll very likely improve over time. Right now, though, I don't have much expectation for him out of the gate - any lift he gives us will be bonus.
Our guards next year will be the guards we have this year, for the most part... seniors Mike Williams and Nigel Johnson, junior Corey Sanders, and sophomore Issa Thiam. We'll add RS freshman Bullock, and true freshman Baker to that mix... but those four will very likely see the lion's share of minutes and points from the two guard spots.
the one thing we can count on is RU fans projecting players to be big contributors before they even step foot on the court. Baker is a solid get but is he going to be a difference maker right away?

Yep, those are the key years. Doucoure was a great start to 2018 (although I understand he may re-class to 2017). Fact is, if we are going to move up in teh B1G, we need more 4 stars like Doucoure and less 2 stars like Baker. I get that Pikiell hopes Baker is that "diamond in the rough" but you are not going to build a winning program by consistently taking "diamond in the rough" types.
Just a thought, too, after a post in another thread... Baker is only 6-2, which would make four guards on the team that are 6-2 or 6-1.
Where do you have Matt Bullock as being next year?
He has a decent shot. I just do not know where he fits in. I would say small forward and down.
We have a nice group of players that can play the 3 and 4. People say basketball is becoming positionless, but based on skill sets, positions are still very much valid.
Take the median of the two.
I say 6 3. Good genetic makeup of height and length. Has the physical makeup to be a great defender. He will be a great defender.

Have you seen Bullock in a warmup suit. A lot needs to happen before we can even start a conversation of his role in the program.
Exactly. I have seen people post about Bullock. He seems like a great kid, but there is no reason to believe he would play a huge role going forward.
