Next year

Absolutely nothing should take 5-7 years, nothing. Petrino went to Louisville and rebuilt that entire program into a top 10 team in two years, yes it's his 3rd year but he's vying for a dam playoff spot!!!! We are losers to even think that this is going to take 5 years. I have faith that Ash will turn this program around next year and have a winning season in 2018.
I agree it's not 5-7 but Petrino didn't rebuild LVille. He went their BC their former coach went to Texas BC he did so well.

Maybe not replaced, but his performance has allowed others to steal snaps from him. I think Ash is playing the other guys to avoid the issue of having an entire green line for next year. Also, Ash isn't satisfied with the production of Denman and even Muller for that fact.

Definitely think Ash/Blazek are hedging against next year and getting guys minutes (which is good), and I doubt they're really satisfied with the production of the line overall. If they felt Seymour/Applefield taking 100% of the snaps at RT gives us the best chance to win, I'm sure they'd be taking those snaps... but it doesn't seem like that's the case right now, as a recovering/injured Denman was brought in during a close game against Minnesota. A healthy Denman, for however underperforming he's been this year, is still their best option... and even a partially limited Denman apparently has more faith from the staff than letting Seymour/Applefield take all the snaps.

Nothing against Denman, but I'd love of Seymour just took over the job and outperformed Denman consistently, and didn't look back. I don't think we're there at this point, though.

With a winnable home game against Indiana after a bye week, if Denman can go, he'll go.

Either way, we're going to need to work out a lot of new chemistry/communication on the line next year - and that's not something that you can just look past. Somehow handwaving that the line will be fine and/or better next year while we play musical chairs over the summer is wishful thinking.

But bottom line is, losing Denman is not going to leave a gaping hole.

And who has more room for significant improvement then Seymour? Guy was a d lineman a couple months ago. He'll have the rest of this season, a month of bowl prep:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:, spring, summer and then start the season.

RT is not a major concern. I don't even see Muller as a major concern. Nelson is probably the biggest loss on the O-line.

Individually, each might not be a major concern. If we were just replacing Denman with Seymour next year, that'd be one thing. If we were just replacing Muller with Applefield, sure. But we're replacing 60% of the line with guys who will have little in the way of game reps under their belts. This isn't a "plug one guy into a functioning line, and he'll build chemistry with them" situation.

Sure the right side will have chemistry issues. But it might be a talent upgrade.

Meanwhile the left side will have a full season under it's belt, which it did not going into this year.

Look I'm not expecting the best O-line in the country, or even a good O-line, just saying I do not expect a drop off in O-line play.

Which has been my point, position group by position group I only see a drop off at one such group. The DL.

Nelson and Gopre? Any chance of those guys finally getting their acts together? Would Ash still be interested?
